MondoCon is an annual celebration of the collectible artwork and artists at Mondo, a poster and T-shirt company, held in Austin, Texas, United States. [1] It offers exclusive items, panels, exhibitor booths and screenings with filmmakers and artists.
MondoCon was conceived as a spin-off from Fantastic Fest, with the first two years taking place on the weekends of the event, before branching out to its own weekend. [2]
MondoCon 2014 ran September 20–21 for about 2,000 people and coincided with the first weekend of Fantastic Fest. [3] [4] It featured a premiere of scenes from 2001: A Space Odyssey with composer Alex North's original score re-inserted. [5] William Stout revealed information about an unproduced Godzilla remake written by Fred Dekker that was to be directed by Steve Miner. [6] Future Shock! The Story of 2000 AD, a documentary about the titular British comic anthology, had its world premiere. About 50 artists and designers attended, [7] including artists Bernie Wrightson, Basil Gogos and Todd Slater. [8] It included live screenprinting of prints by Bryan Lee O’Malley and Mike Mignola. [9] Dogfish Head Brewery provided an exclusive "Mondo Beer" aged in oak tanks. [10]
MondoCon 2015 was held October 3–4 and expanded its space to the Marchesa Theater and the Holiday Inn across the street and included artists such as Becky Cloonan, Francesco Francavilla and Ken Taylor. [11] Concept artist Jock revealed he was designing Star Wars: The Last Jedi . [12] For the first time, all three Back to the Future film scores were released together on vinyl. [13]
MondoCon 2016 was held October 22–23 at the AFS Cinema and Holiday Inn Midtown Conference Center. [14] It featured Florian Bertmer, Scott C., Aaron Draplin, Aaron Horkey, Jock, Olly Moss, Alex Pardee, Arik Roper, Jay Ryan, Todd Slater and William Stout. [15] [16] Fans started lining up 48 hours early. It included a 10th anniversary screening of The Fountain with introduction and Q&A by composer Clint Mansell and a sale of the soundtrack on vinyl for the first time. [17] [18] During a panel with Mondo's creative team it was revealed the company was working on a Nickelodeon-themed gallery show that would include Ren and Stimpy and The Legend of Korra . [19]
MondoCon 2017 was announced as taking place November 4–5 in a new location, formerly the print presses of the Austin American-Statesman building, and was scheduled to feature Florian Bertmer, Becky Cloonan, Aaron Draplin, Francesco Francavilla, Jock, Mike Mitchell, Alex Pardee, Eric Powell, Jay Ryan, Todd Slater and William Stout. In April 2018, Mondo announced the event would be taking a hiatus that year but would return on September 14-15, 2019. [21]
The event has been called "the world's coolest poster convention" and "one of the leaders in the rise of pop culture art." [22] [23] In 2016 Nerdist called it "the venerable kingpin of the artisanal movie poster game." [24]
Mark Simpson, known by the pen name Jock, is a Scottish cartoonist, best known for his work in 2000 AD, The Losers, and more recently Batman and Wolverine. He is also known for Wytches by Image Comics.

Tim League is an American entrepreneur and film producer based in Austin, Texas. He is the founder of the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema chain and the founder of the film distribution company Drafthouse Films, where League has produced films including The ABCs of Death. He is also the co-founder of genre film festival Fantastic Fest, the entertainment merchandise entity Mondo, and the film distribution and production company Neon.
Oliver Jonathan Moss is an English graphic artist, best known for his reimagining of movie posters. His work has been released by Mondo and is regularly featured in Empire magazine.
The ABCs of Death is a 2012 American comedy horror anthology film produced by international producers and directed by filmmakers from around the world. The film contains 26 shorts, each by different directors spanning fifteen countries, including Nacho Vigalondo, Kaare Andrews, Adam Wingard, Simon Barrett, Banjong Pisanthanakun, Ben Wheatley, Lee Hardcastle, Noboru Iguchi, Ti West, and Angela Bettis.
Short Term 12 is a 2013 American independent drama film written and directed by Destin Daniel Cretton. It is adapted from Cretton's short film of the same name, produced in 2009. The film stars Brie Larson as Grace Howard, a young supervisor of a group home for troubled teenagers. The film was the first leading performance of Larson's career.
Aaron Horkey is an American illustrator from Windom, Minnesota. He has created concert posters for bands such as Boris, Converge, Isis, and the Melvins. First Showing described him as "one of Mondo's most popular and respected artists".
Anthony Revolori is an American actor. He is best known for his role as Zero Moustafa in The Grand Budapest Hotel (2014), for which he was nominated for numerous acting awards, and Flash Thompson in the Marvel Cinematic Universe films Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017), Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019) and Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021).
Afflicted is a 2013 Canadian found footage horror film written and directed by Derek Lee and Clif Prowse. Their feature film directorial debut, it had its world premiere on September 9, 2013 at the Toronto International Film Festival, where it won a special jury citation for Best Canadian First Feature Film. Lee and Prowse star as two friends whose goal to film themselves traveling the world is cut short when one of them contracts a mysterious disease.

Mondo was an American company known for releasing limited edition screen printed posters for films, television shows, and comics, as well as vinyl movie soundtracks, clothing and apparel, toys, and re-issues of VHS releases. Founded in 2004 as Mondo Tees, the company is a former subsidiary of the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema chain in Austin, Texas, and currently hosts a permanent gallery space there which features original artwork and custom posters.
Random Acts of Violence is a 2019 slasher film based on the 2010 eponymous graphic novel written by Jimmy Palmiotti and Justin Gray, and illustrated by Giancarlo Caracuzzo. The film is produced and directed by Jay Baruchel, who wrote the screenplay with Jesse Chabot, and stars Jesse Williams, Jordana Brewster, and Baruchel. The film follows Todd Walkley (Williams), a comic book creator whose works are used as inspiration for a string of real-life murders.
Mad God is a 2021 stop-motion adult animated experimental horror film written, produced, and directed by Phil Tippett. Completed in 2021, the film was produced over a period of thirty years. It was released on streaming service Shudder on June 16, 2022.
Inside Out: Original Soundtrack is the soundtrack album to Disney/Pixar's 2015 film of the same name, produced by Pixar Animation Studios and Walt Disney Pictures. Directed by Pete Docter, the film featured musical score composed by Michael Giacchino. This is the second collaboration between Giacchino and Docter, after previously working on Up, which fetched the former, an Academy Award for Best Original Score. Giacchino termed the score as "more emotional in comparison to the score for Up" and also being "more personal" due to his experience on parenthood. The score was recorded within January and May 2015, and featured more orchestral and symphonic music accompanied by a range of instruments, from piano, guitar, drum, organ and harp.
