Mount Tidd

Mount Tidd ( 81°17′S85°13′W / 81.283°S 85.217°W / -81.283; -85.217 Coordinates: 81°17′S85°13′W / 81.283°S 85.217°W / -81.283; -85.217 ) is a prominent rock peak which is the highest summit in Pirrit Hills. The peak was positioned by the U.S. Ellsworth-Byrd Traverse Party on December 10, 1958. It was named by the Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names (US-ACAN) for Lieutenant Paul Tidd of the U.S. Navy, who was the Officer-in-Charge of Ellsworth Station in 1958.

Pirrit Hills is an isolated group of rocky peaks and nunataks about 7 nautical miles (13 km) in extent, lying southward of the Ellsworth Mountains, between the Heritage Range and Nash Hills. The feature was positioned by the U.S. Ellsworth-Byrd Traverse Party in December 1958. It was named by the Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names (US-ACAN) for John Pirrit, a glaciologist with the traverse party who had wintered at Ellsworth Station. Pirrit was scientific leader at Byrd Station in 1959.

The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names is an advisory committee of the United States Board on Geographic Names responsible for recommending names for features in Antarctica. The United States does not recognise territorial boundaries within Antarctica, so ACAN will assign names to features anywhere within the continent, in consultation with other national nomenclatural bodies where appropriate.

Bradley Nunatak is a prominent nunatak standing 10 nautical miles (19 km) southwest of Mount Tidd in the Pirrit Hills, Marie Byrd Land. The peak was positioned by the U.S. Ellsworth-Byrd Traverse Party on December 7, 1958, and named for Rev. Edward A. Bradley, S.J., seismologist with the party.

Mount Byerly is a major peak in the eastern part of the Nash Hills, Marie Byrd Land. It was positioned by the U.S. Ellsworth-Byrd Traverse Party on December 10, 1958, and named for Perry Byerly, chairman of the Technical Panel for Seismology and Gravity of the U.S. National Committee for the International Geophysical Year, as set up by the U.S. National Academy of Sciences.

Mount Capley is a peak, 1,810 metres (5,940 ft) high, in the Nimbus Hills of the Heritage Range. It was mapped by the United States Geological Survey from surveys and from U.S. Navy air photos, 1961–66, and named by the Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names for Lieutenant Commander Joe H. Capley, U.S. Navy, pilot on photographic flights over Marie Byrd Land and Ellsworth Land during Operation Deep Freeze 1965 and 1966.

Carnell Peak is a peak, 1,730 metres (5,680 ft) high, in the Watlack Hills, situated 2.5 nautical miles (5 km) from the southeast end of the group, in the Heritage Range, Ellsworth Mountains. It was mapped by the United States Geological Survey from surveys and from U.S. Navy air photos, 1961–66, and named by the Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names for Lieutenant D.L. Carnell, Civil Engineer Corps, U.S. Navy, maintenance officer at Williams Field, McMurdo Sound, in the 1965–66 season, who was responsible for the first piercing of the Ross Ice Shelf at 50 meters.

Crosswell Glacier is a glacier 10 nautical miles long, flowing north-northeast from Mount Shinn between Sullivan Heights and Bearskin Ridge, in the central part of the Sentinel Range, Ellsworth Mountains, Antarctica. Together with Patton and Pulpudeva Glaciers, it enters Ellen Glacier northwest of Mamarchev Peak and southeast of Mount Jumper.

Mount Turcotte is a rock peak 2.5 nautical miles (4.6 km) northwest of Mount Tidd in the Pirrit Hills. It was positioned by the U.S. Ellsworth-Byrd Traverse Party on December 7, 1958, and was named for F. Thomas Turcotte, a seismologist with the party.

Evans Peak

Evans Peak is a prominent rock peak, 3,950 metres (12,960 ft) high, standing 3 nautical miles (6 km) east-northeast of Mount Ostenso in the Sentinel Range of the Ellsworth Mountains, Antarctica. It overlooks Rumyana Glacier to the north and Patton Glacier to the south. The peak was named by the University of Minnesota Geological Party to these mountains, 1963–64, for John Evans, a geologist with the party.

Patton Glacier is a broad tributary glacier in the Sentinel Range, Ellsworth Mountains. It drains the east slope of the main ridge between Mounts Ostenso and Tyree, flows east-northeastwards between Evans Peak and Versinikia Peak on the north and Mount Bearskin on the south, and enters Ellen Glacier northeast of Zalmoxis Peak and southeast of Mount Jumper.

Mount Goodwin is a rock peak that is the second most prominent summit in the Pirrit Hills of Antarctica. It was positioned by the U.S. Ellsworth–Byrd Traverse Party on December 10, 1958 and was named for Robert J. Goodwin, a glaciologist with the traverse party.

Mount Macelwane is the highest peak in the eastern part of the Nash Hills of Antarctica. The peak was positioned by the U.S. Ellsworth–Byrd Traverse Party on December 14, 1958, and named for Reverend James B. Macelwane, S.J., first chairman of the Technical Panel for Seismology and Gravity of the U.S. National Committee for the International Geophysical Year, as set up by the National Academy of Sciences. It lies within the Chilean Antarctic Territory.

The Marble Hills are a group of mainly ice-free hills in West Antarctica. They are located on the west side of Horseshoe Valley, between the Liberty Hills and Independence Hills in the southern part of the Heritage Range, Ellsworth Mountains. The hills were named by the University of Minnesota Ellsworth Mountains Party, 1962–63, because the rocks in these hills are composed of marble.

Mount Hoffman is a distinctive rock peak 1.5 nautical miles (3 km) south-southwest of Mount Tidd, in the southern flank of the Pirrit Hills of Antarctica. The peak was positioned by the U.S. Ellsworth–Byrd Traverse Party on December 7, 1958 and was named for Daniel Hoffman, a mechanic with the traverse party.

Lanz Peak

Lanz Peak is a peak, 1,570 metres (5,150 ft) high, near the extreme northern end of the Sentinel Range in the Ellsworth Mountains of Antarctica. It is 10 nautical miles (19 km) north-northwest of Mount Weems and is the middle one of a group of three peaks lying in a northeast–southwest direction. The peak was discovered by Lincoln Ellsworth on his trans-Antarctic flight of November 23, 1935, and was named by the Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names for Walter J. Lanz, a radio operator on three Ellsworth Antarctic expeditions between 1933 and 1936.

Chapman Peak is a peak, 2,230 metres (7,320 ft) high, in the Maglenik Heights, on the east side of Ellen Glacier and west of Arapya Glacier, 5 miles (8 km) northeast of Mount Jumper in the central Sentinel Range of the Ellsworth Mountains, Antarctica. It was first mapped by the U.S. Geological Survey from surveys and from U.S. Navy air photos, 1957–59, and named by the Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names for Captain John H. Chapman, USAF, who participated in establishing the International Geophysical Year South Pole Station in the 1956–57 season.

Brook Glacier glacier in Antarctica

Brook Glacier is a glacier that flows westward between Mount Strybing, Mount Allen and Krusha Peak on the west side of Owen Ridge in southern Sentinel Range, Ellsworth Mountains in Antarctica, and joins Bender Glacier east of Chaplin Peak. It was named by the Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names (2006) after Edward J. Brook, Professor of Geosciences, Oregon State University; U.S. Antarctic Project investigator of Antarctic paleoclimate in numerous field seasons from 1988; Chair, U.S. National Ice Core Working Group for use of Antarctic ice cores for research purposes, 2004–05.

Hinkley Glacier

Hinkley Glacier is a glacier flowing northeastward from Corbet Peak and Schoening Peak, Vinson Massif on the east slope of Sentinel Range in the Ellsworth Mountains, Antarctica, and continuing between Mount Segers and Zinsmeister Ridge to enter Dater Glacier southeast of Nebeska Peak and northwest of Sipey Peak. It was named by US-ACAN (2006) after Todd K. Hinkley, Technical Director, National Ice Core Laboratory, U.S. Geological Survey, Denver, CO,2001-06.
