Movement (stylised as MOVEMENT) are an Australian minimal soul duo who blend R&B and ambient music. They consist of Lewis Wade on vocals and keyboards and Jesse James Ward on bass guitar, synthesisers, and vocals. Their self-titled debut EP was released in May 2014 via Modular Recordings.
Movement were formed in Sydney in 2011. [1] Their music is described as "minimal soul," [2] as well as "psychedelic" and "body music." [3] [4] The songs have elements of R&B, ambient, soul and pop music. [5]
They were signed to Modular Recordings in May 2013 ahead of the label issuing their debut single, "Feel Real". [6] Their second single, "Us", was named a Best New Track on Pitchfork in September, [2] as was the third single, "Like Lust", in March 2014. [4] That single reached No. 16 on the ARIA Hitseekers Singles Chart. [7] The music video for a fourth single, "Ivory" (April), was directed by Fleur & Manu. [8]
Movement's debut, self-titled, four-track EP was released on 6 May 2014 via Modular Recordings, with additional production and mixing from Illangelo. [5] [9] Ryan Burleson of Paste described how, "[their] songs interact with the body more than the mind, though in the right settings—driving in the desert at sunset, say, or getting high at night on the beach—they're ripe for meditation. Otherwise the goal here seems fairly obvious: To generate a soundtrack for the bedroom, the moments leading up to the bedroom, and the moments just beyond... the trio hits all its marks, and listeners would border on robotic not to feel at least a slight bit of provocation in these songs." Movement toured Australia in May 2014 and then Europe and the United States in mid-year. [1] [9] They have opened for various artist including Banks on her North American tour in August 2014, [11] Darkside on their tour of Australia, [1] [12] and for Solange. [4] According to AllMusic's Paul Simpson, "[their] sound combined seductive, R&B-inspired vocals with downtempo dance beats and dark atmospheres." [13]
MTV 's Lisa Hamilton caught their gig in September 2014 at Newtown Social Club, "These are bedroom tracks for Millenials; between the sheets of a digital age where lust is clicked, licked and fleeting... The pulses beat the tempo of a new hook up; the Movement sounds takes strokes of James Blake-esque tones and melds them with dance tracks that whisper of chaste sensuality. The timbre of vocalist Lewis Wade’s whiskey-honey vocals grated over the synth so sensually in 'Us' and teased us into 'coming over when it feels like lust'." [14]
They performed at the 2014 Pitchfork Music Festival Paris in November [15] and the 2015 Primavera Festival in Spain in May. [16]

Girl and the Sea is the second EP by Australian electronic dance music duo The Presets released on Modular Records on 1 November 2004. The EP reached No. 6 on the AIR charts and at No. 20 on the ARIA Hitseekers Charts. The vocals for the song were sung by Julian Hamilton and recorded by The Presets in Kim Moyes' small apartment bathroom. The song was included on the duo's debut studio album Beams, and was also featured in the TV series The O.C.
Ghostwood were an Australian alternative-indie band formed in 2006. The original line-up, known as the Ghosts, was Tom Crandles on bass guitar, Patrick Harrowsmith on lead guitar, James West on drums and Gabriel Winterield on lead vocals and rhythm guitar. They changed their name and were signed to Modular Recordings, which issued their self-titled extended play in August 2007. The group toured Australia in that year and then travelled to the United Kingdom during 2008 and 2009. They split up in 2011 with Winterfield joining Jagwar Ma. In mid-2019 they released their debut studio album, The Lost Album, which had been recorded ten years earlier.
Irish singer and songwriter Róisín Murphy has released six studio albums, one live album, one remix album, five extended plays, 33 singles and 18 music videos. Murphy debuted in 1995 as lead singer of the electronic music duo Moloko. The duo achieved success in the United Kingdom, producing four top 20 singles. Moloko broke up in 2003 after Murphy had ended her relationship with musical partner Mark Brydon.

The group has a close affiliation with fellow Australian psychedelic rock band Pond, sharing members and collaborators, including Nick Allbrook, formerly a live member of Tame Impala. Originally signed to Modular Recordings, Tame Impala is now signed to Interscope Records in the United States and Fiction Records in the United Kingdom.
Surfer Blood is an American indie rock band from West Palm Beach, Florida, United States, currently signed to Kanine Records, formerly signed to Joyful Noise Recordings and Warner Bros. Records. The band currently consists of four members: John Paul Pitts, Tyler Schwarz (drums), Mike McCleary, and Lindsey Mills.

Unknown Mortal Orchestra are a New Zealand psychedelic rock band formed in Auckland, primarily composed of singer, guitarist, and songwriter Ruban Nielson, and bassist Jacob Portrait. The band is based in Portland, Oregon. Nielson started the band in 2009, initially as a solo project. The band's first album was released in 2011 on Fat Possum Records; four subsequent studio albums have been released on Jagjaguwar, the most recent being V (2023).
Carlo Montagnese, known professionally as Illangelo, is a Canadian record producer, songwriter, and mixing engineer from Calgary, Alberta, who came to attention as long-time collaborator of the Weeknd. Having executive produced his 2011 mixtapes compiled in his Trilogy (2012) album, Montagnese has served as a frequent contributor for many of his following releases. Apart from the his work with the Toronto native, his other notable credits include Post Malone's "I Fall Apart", Fall Out Boy's "The Last of the Real Ones", Wiz Khalifa's "Remember You", Drake's "Crew Love", Ricky Hil's "Nomads", and remixes such as Lady Gaga's "Marry the Night " and Florence and the Machine's "Shake It Out". He was one half of the duo Somewhere Else with collaborator Billy Walsh, and signed with Skrillex's OWSLA label and Brodinski's Bromance Records to release his debut concept album, History of Man (2013).

Sleep in the Water is the debut album by the Australian five-piece indie pop, dream band, Snakadaktal. It was released on 2 August 2013 through Liberation Music with Dann Hume producing. It peaked at No. 9 on the ARIA Albums Chart. Two singles were provided, "Hung on Tight" and "Fall Underneath" (November). In February 2014 The Sun II was released as an extended play, which included some remixes and unreleased songs from recording sessions for this album. The band had promoted it with a national tour in August to September 2013. It was the band's only studio album before splitting up in March 2014.

Nicole Maxine Michel-Millar, who performs as Nicole Millar, is a Canadian-Australian electronic, indie pop singer-songwriter. She is the featured vocalist on "High" by Australian duo, Peking Duk, which peaked at No. 5 on the ARIA Singles Chart and was certified triple platinum by the Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA). Millar co-wrote the track with Sam Littlemore and the duo's Adam Hyde and Reuben Styles. At the ARIA Music Awards of 2014 she won a trophy for Best Dance Release alongside the group. In the following January, "High", was listed at No.2 on the Triple J Hottest 100, 2014.

Their sound is characterised by elements of art punk, noise rock and experimental rock.
