Muara Library (Malay : Perpustakaan Muara) is a public library located in Muara in Brunei-Muara District, Brunei. Officially known in Malay as Perpustakaan Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka Muara, it is one of the public libraries operated by Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka Brunei . [1]

History

The laying of foundation stone for the library building was held in a ceremony on 13 May 2004, which was officiated by the then Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, Awang Hussain bin Awang Mohd. Yusof. [2] Its construction was completed by the following year, and the library was inaugurated on 8 December 2005 by the succeeding Minister, Awang Mohammad bin Daud. [2]

Designed in the Constructivist architecture, the building serves as a hub for educational and literary resources. Originally known as the Language and Literature Bureau, its primary function has always been to operate as a library and educational centre. Today, it offer a range of materials, services, and programs that are easily accessible and free of charge to all residents. Its mission is to educate, inform, enrich, and entertain the public, while ensuring equal access to information and ideas for all users.

Matussin bin Omar, pen name D. P. Matussin, is a historian, civil servant and writer from Brunei who previously served as the third director of the Brunei Museum from 1987 to 1995. He started writing poetry, short tales, essays, and song lyrics in 1962. Since then, he has established himself as a well-known scholar of Bruneian literature and culture.
