Daerah Belait Library (Malay : Perpustakaan Daerah Belait, officially Perpustakaan Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka Kuala Belait) is a public library located in Kuala Belait, Brunei. It is one of the public libraries operated by Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka Brunei . [1]

Malay is an Austronesian language spoken in Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore, as well as parts of Thailand. A language of the Malays, it is spoken by 290 million people across the Strait of Malacca, including the coasts of the Malay Peninsula of Malaysia and the eastern coast of Sumatra in Indonesia and has been established as a native language of part of western coastal Sarawak and West Kalimantan in Borneo. It is also used as a trading language in the southern Philippines, including the southern parts of the Zamboanga Peninsula, the Sulu Archipelago and the southern predominantly Muslim-inhabited municipalities of Bataraza and Balabac in Palawan.

Kuala Belait, officially known in Malay as Pekan Kuala Belait, is a town located in the westernmost part of Brunei, in Belait District. It is the second largest settlement in the country after Bandar Seri Begawan, the capital of Brunei, and functions as the capital for the district. Kuala Belait is officially a municipality, as well as a village-level subdivision under the mukim or subdistrict of the same name. The postcode for Kuala Belait subdivision is KA1131.

History

The library was established on 14 July 1975, initially located at Jalan Bunga Raya. [2] It moved to the present building at Jalan Padang in 1986, which was inaugurated by Princess Masna on 19 June in that year. [2]

She was born in 1948 and is married to Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Lela Cheteria Sahibun Najabah Pengiran Anak Haji Abdul Aziz bin Pengiran Jaya Negara Pengiran Haja Abu Bakar, the Head of Adat isitiadat Department. He was also the Grand Chamberlain and Controller of the Royal Customs and Excise Department.
