Mubarak Ahmad Gul (born 1951),also known as Mubarak Gul,is an Indian politician and a former member of Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly from Eidgah constituency. Affiliated with Jammu &Kashmir National Conference,he also served speaker of the Jammu and Kashmir legislative assembly in 2013 to 2015 and advisor to the then chief minister Omar Abdullah. [2]
Gul was born in 1951. He started his political career as a councillor in 1976 and was also the president of Rural Development Society,Jammu and Kashmir Youth Federation,in addition to serving as the president of youth wing of National Conference. After electing to the assembly in 1983,the party declined to give him mandate,but was later selected to the upper house by the NC party,the ruling party of that time. [3]
He was first elected to the Jammu and Kashmir assembly in 1983,and then in 1996,2002,and 2008. He contested his last election in 2014 assembly polls and won from Eidgah constituency. [4] [5]
On 28 February 2013,Gul replaced Akbar Lone as the Speaker of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly,as Lone was taken into the Cabinet by CM Omar Abdullah. [6]
The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) is a regional political party in Indian-administered Kashmir's union territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. Founded as the All Jammu and Kashmir Muslim Conference by Sheikh Abdullah and Chaudhry Ghulam Abbas in 1932 in the princely state of Jammu and Kashmir,the organisation renamed itself to "National Conference" in 1939 in order to represent all the people of the state. Farooq Abdullah is an Indian politician and current President of Jammu &Kashmir National Conference. He has served as the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir on several occasions since 1982,and as the union minister for New and Renewable Energy between 2009 and 2014. Khwaja Mubarak Shah was a senior Jammu &Kashmir National Conference leader and former Member of The Indian Parliament (MP) from the North Kashmir constituency of Baramulla in the early 1980s and also served as a Deputy Minister in the 1952 Government of Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah. He also served as Superintendent of Police from 1947 for a brief spell and was trained under Gen. Thimaih,and had given up the job to join politics after Sheikh Mohammed Abdullah was made as an interim Administrator to govern the State when its Dogra ruler Maharaja Hari Singh was dethroned in 1947. He was jailed along with Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah and remained in Jail from August 1953 to February 1963,when his father had died. Mubarak Shah polled an overwhelming 67.57% of votes in the Parliamentary Elections in 1980 as opposed to his closest opponent,Muzaffar Hussain Beg who polled 28.48% of total votes polled. He is the son of Khwaja Sikander Shah of Varmul and the Brother-in-Law of Ghulam Ahmad Ashai. He was succeeded as the MP from Baramulla by Saifuddin Soz,who went on to serve as the Union Minister for Water Resources in the first Manmohan Singh Administration.

He is a leading campaigner for secular values against the terrorist insurgency in Jammu and Kashmir. On 29th September 2022,he joined Bhartiya Janata Party.
Ghulam Mohammad Saroori,also known as G. M. Saroori,is an Indian politician and the former legislator of Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly,who represented Inderwal constituency of Kishtwar district from 2002 to 2018 until the coalition government was ended in the state of Jammu and Kashmir.
Chowdhary Mohmmad Hussain was an Indian politician and bureaucrat. He was part of 4th,6th,8th and 9th Jammu and Kashmir state Legislative assembly. He represented the Darhal Vidhan Sabha constituency of Rajouri district of erstwhile State of Jammu and Kashmir for 5 times. He was first elected as MLA from this seat,on the mandate of Indian national congress in 1967 and 1969. He remained district chief of the INC for a long period. In 1972 he was denied the mandate by the INC,In 1975 he joined Jammu and Kashmir national conference headed by Sheikh Mohmmed Abdullah. In 1977 he contested the elections from the same vidhan sabha seat on the mandate of Jammu and Kashmir National Conference and was elected for 3rd time to the Vidhan Sabha. He was inducted in the council of ministers of Sheikh Mohmmed Abdullah Ministry. In 1983 he lost the elections to INC candidate and veteran spiritual gujjar leader with a very thin margin. In 1987,general elections to Jammu and Kashmir vidhan sabha,he was again elected to represent this constituency. Again,in 1996 elected to vidhan sabha for,and was again inducted in the council of ministers headed by Dr Farooq Abdullah which he held till his death 30 September 2002. He also served as Block Development Officer from 1957 to 1967. As a minister he headed the revenue,relief and rehabilitation,rural development and Panchayati Raj cooperatives departments etc. His younger son Chowdhary Zulfkar Ali also represents Darhal in 11th and 12th Assemblies and was a cabinet minister in the Mufti Mohommad Sayeed and Mehbooba Mufti Governments.
