Munarman is the former spokesman of the Islamic Defenders Front (FPI), advocate, former human rights activist, former chairman of the YLBHI, who later became the Commander of the Laskar Islam Command of FPI. [1] [2] [3]
Munarman was born and raised in Palembang and is the sixth of 11 children. [4] [5] In 1996 Munarman married Ana Noviana and settled in Palembang. [5] [6] From this marriage Munarman was given with three children, namely Rio Mohammad Alfarez, Rinaldo Mohammad Montazeri and the last one was born in September 2008, when Munarman left prison for six hours to see him after his birth. [6] [7] Munarman and his family lived separately with regular meetings on the weekends until his move to Jakarta in 2000. Previously his family had lived with Munarman's family in Palembang. [6]
Munarman's parents say that they have not had much communication since Munarman is busy with his job in Jakarta, although they do say that they have visited Jakarta. [5] Information about Munarman was obtained by his family via television broadcasts. [5]
Munarman became one of the opponents of the existence of Ahmadiyah, in Indonesia along with several other Islamic figures in Indonesia. In the Monas incident on June 1, 2008, related to the attacks and violence carried out by FPI and Laskar Islam against the AKK-BB mass, around 500 people beat AKK-BB rally participants and damaged motorized vehicles at Monas. [8] [9] appeared in a June 2008 news recording on Metro TV, claiming to be responsible as the Laskar Islam Commander for causing the incident. He asked the police not to secretly arrest his men, but just arrest him as chairman. On 4 June 2008, around 1,500 police officers were dispatched to the FPI Headquarters in Petamburan, Jakarta, after none of the FPI surrendered. Munarman disappeared and refused to turn himself in. He also became a police fugitive after being named a suspect, and entered into the top DPO (wanted list) along with several people involved in the action by the Indonesian Police (Polri) and its ranks below (including all Polda throughout Indonesia) to be examined and questioned as a result of being involved in the incident. He became viral and infamous after an incident in national television where he threw a glass of hot tea to the face of Professor Thamrin Tamagola. [10] [11]
Gelora Sriwijaya Stadium, also known as Jakabaring Stadium, is a multi-purpose stadium located in Jakabaring Sport City complex in Palembang, South Sumatra, Indonesia. It is currently used mostly for football matches. The stadium holds 23,000 spectators. The construction began in 2001 and finished in 2004 to host the 2004 Indonesia National Games. The stadium was initially named as Jakabaring stadium after the location of the stadium in southern outskirt of Palembang. However, later the stadium was renamed "Gelora Sriwijaya", to honor and celebrate the 7th—13th century Indonesian empire of Srivijaya. The Third Place Playoff of the 2007 AFC Asian Cup was held in this stadium. The football club Sriwijaya is based at the stadium.
Tantowi Yahya is an Indonesian artist, presenter and politician who is a former Ambassador of Indonesia to New Zealand, Samoa and Tonga. He is most famous for hosting the Indonesian version of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?. In 2009, Tantowi became member of Indonesian parliament from Golkar Party, representing South Sumatra province. In 2014, he was reelected and this time he represented the capital city, Jakarta.
Muhammad Rizieq bin Hussein Shihab is an Indonesian Islamist cleric, the founder and leader of the Islamist group Islamic Defenders Front, which was banned by the government in December 2020. Facing criminal charges in Indonesia, he lived in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia from 2017 to November 2020. Following his return to Indonesia, he was arrested in late 2020, accused of criminal incitement for holding crowded events that violated the COVID-19 pandemic regulations.

November 2016 Jakarta protests refer to an Islamist mass protest which took place on 4 November 2016 in Jakarta, Indonesia. It was attended by an estimated 50,000–200,000 protesters, and was aimed against the Governor of Jakarta Basuki Tjahaja Purnama, for alleged blasphemy of the Quran, the Islamic holy book. A counter-protest led by government officials and social activists in support of interfaith unity was led on 30 November.
On 24 May 2017, two explosions occurred at a bus terminal in Kampung Melayu, East Jakarta. Police confirmed that the explosions were caused by multiple explosive devices found in the toilet and in another part of the terminal. The bombings killed five people: three policemen and two attackers. The 11 injured people were taken to multiple hospitals across the Eastern Jakarta area.

The Islamic Defenders Front was an Indonesian hardline Islamist organization founded in 1998 by Muhammad Rizieq Shihab with backing from military and political figures. Since 2015, Ahmad Shabri Lubis has been the organization's leader, while Rizieq Shihab holds the title of Grand Imam of the FPI for life. The FPI originally positioned itself as an Islamic religious police, mostly by conducting illegal and unauthorized vigilante operations. It also acted as an Islamist pressure group with prominent social media activism and mass mobilizations against pro-government activists, ethnic Chinese, Christian minority, as well as liberal and reformist politicians.

Habib Bahar bin Smith is a preacher from Manado, North Sulawesi. Bahar is the leader and founder of the Prophet's Defender Council headquartered in Pondok Aren, South Tangerang. In addition, he is also the founder of Pondok Pesantren Tajul Alawiyyin in Kemang, Bogor Regency. Bahar is known as a preacher who often provokes the masses in a negative way. In each of his lectures, Habib Bahar was always accompanied and closely guarded by Islamic Defenders Front (FPI), and he was frequently accompanied by the Multipurpose Ansor Front when he preached in a place where his people were affiliated with Nahdlatul Ulama.
Jamaah Ansharut Daulah is an Indonesian group that has been reported to be linked to the 2018 Surabaya bombings as well as the 2019 Jolo Cathedral bombings. The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) has been reported as claiming responsibility for both attacks. The group had been identified by the United States Department of State as a terrorist organization in 2017. It is banned by Iraq and Indonesia. It is also listed as a terrorist organization by the United Nations Security Council on 4 March 2020.
The Decree on Islamic Defenders Front or Joint Decree 220-4780/2020, M.HH-14.HH.05.05/2020, 690/2020, 264/2020, KB/3/XII/2020, 320/2020 is a decree enacted by six ministries and departments in Indonesia to prohibit any activity related to the Islamic Defenders Front (FPI) and the use of its related symbols. The decree was enacted on 30 December 2020, and is currently in force. The decree was read by Deputy Minister of Human Rights and Law, Eddy Hiariej. The Indonesian government argues that the Islamic Defenders Front and its members violated the law and accuse its members of links to terrorists, justifying the ban. The decree prohibits any association with Islamic Defender Fronts and justifies the arrest of anyone involved in its activities or carrying any symbols related to it. The ministers of the Ministries of Home Affairs, Law and Human Rights, Communication and Information Technology, the Attorney General, the Chief of the National Police, and the National Counter Terrorism Agency signed the law.

The Makassar cathedral bombing was an attack occurred on 28 March 2021, around 10:28 Central Indonesia Time (UTC+8) at the Sacred Heart Cathedral in Makassar, South Sulawesi, Indonesia, during a Palm Sunday service. It was the first church bombing in Indonesia since the 13 May 2018 bombings of three churches in Surabaya.
The Forum Betawi Rempug (FBR) is a Betawi mass organization (ormas) based in Jakarta. The group was established on July 29, 2001, by two Betawi kyais Fadloli El Muhir and Lutfi Hakim. The FBR aims to champion the political rights of the Betawi people, an indigenous but marginalized ethnic group based in Jakarta. Today, the FBR has set up over 300 branches in the Jakarta metropolitan area (Jabodetabek) with each at least 100 active memberships.
Batamad, abbreviation from Barisan Pertahanan Masyarakat Adat Dayak, is an official paramilitary under National Dayak Customary Council in Indonesia. It was established in February 2012 with approval of Central Kalimantan provincial government based on Regional Law Number 16 of 2008. Initially, it was created as a response of rising religious extremism in Indonesia, including Central Kalimantan, and the paramilitary was tasked to supervise suspicious religious activities there, particularly those allegedly by Islamic extremism. Other than that, the organization is also tasked to enforce customary laws under Dayak culture, enforcing tribal land claims, as well as protecting rights of Dayak people. It is proposed in 2018 by Central Kalimantan province that the organization would also act as a security personnels during tribal courts. However, outside of its given legal authorities, the organization also participate in enforcing road traffic with Indonesian National Police.
