The municipality of Baltasar Brum is one of the three municipalities of Artigas Department. Its seat is the city of Baltasar Brum.
The municipality is located in the southwest area of the Artigas Department.
The municipality of Baltasar Brum was created by Law N° 18653 of 15 March 2010, in compliance with the provisions of the Law N° 18567, that provided for the establishment of municipalities in all of the settlements with 2000 or more inhabitants. It is part of the Artigas Department and comprises the ICA constituency of that department. [3] [4] [5]
The only populated place part of this municipality is Baltasar Brum.
The authority of the municipality is the Municipal Council, integrated by the Mayor (who presides it) and four Councilors.

Uruguay consists of 19 departments (departamentos). Each department has a legislature called a Departmental Board. The Intendente is the department's chief executive.
The Departamento de Canelones , with an area of 4,536 km2 (1,751 sq mi) and 518,154 inhabitants, is located in the south of Uruguay. Its capital is Canelones.
Salto Department is a department of the northwestern region of Uruguay. It has an area of 14,163 km2 (5,468 sq mi) and a population of 124,878. Its capital is the city of Salto. It borders Artigas Department to its north, Paysandú Department to its south, the departments of Rivera and Tacuarembó to its east and has the Río Uruguay flowing at its west, separating it from Argentina.
Alfeo Brum was an Uruguayan politician and lawyer. He was Vice-President of Uruguay from 1947 to 1951 and 1951 to 1952, noted for being the longest consecutively serving Vice-President in Uruguay's history. Brum was the only person who served two successive terms as Vice President of Uruguay and was the fifth person to hold the office.
Baltasar Brum Rodríguez, GCTE was a Uruguayan political figure. He was President of Uruguay from 1919 to 1923.

Barros Blancos is a city in the Canelones Department of southern Uruguay. In 1976, it had been renamed to Juan Antonio Artigas, after commanding officer Juan Antonio Artigas, grandfather of the national hero José Gervasio Artigas, but the old name was reinstated in 2007.
Alba Roballo was a Uruguayan lawyer, poet, and politician, who served three consecutive terms from 1958 to 1971 in the Senate of Uruguay and a fourth term in the early 1990s. After graduating with a law degree from the Universidad de la República in Montevideo, she began to write. In 1942, her first book, Se levanta el sol, won first prize from the Ministry of Education. Later she founded two journals, Mujer Batllista and El Pregón. In 1954 she became the first woman to sit on the Montevideo Departmental Council and was elected Senator for the Colorado Party. A prominent Afro-Uruguayan, she was the first woman in South America to serve as a cabinet minister, appointed in 1968; she resigned this post following authoritarian actions by the government. She was a founder of the Frente Amplio in 1971 and though she ran for re-election, that year she was defeated.
Since 2009, the Uruguayan departments have been subdivided into municipalities. In the municipal elections of 2010 municipal authorities were elected for the first time and they assumed office months later. Currently there are 125 municipalities in Uruguay.
