Myrtle Springs is an unincorporated community in Anderson County, in the U.S. state of Texas. [1] It is a part of the Palestine, Texas micropolitan area.

Anderson County is a county in the U.S. state of Texas. As of the 2010 United States Census, the population was 58,458. Its county seat is Palestine. Anderson County was organized in 1846, and was named for Kenneth L. Anderson, who had been the final Vice President of the Republic of Texas.

History

Myrtle Springs was named for a nearby spring with the same name, and in 2000, it was a thriving crossroads community with a church, a cemetery, a community hall, and numerous homes. [1]

Myrtle Springs sits by a tributary of the nearby Box Creek at the confluence of Farm to Market Road 322 and an unidentified country road, 12 mi (19 km) southwest of Palestine in the southwestern portion of Anderson County [1]

Palestine, Texas City in Texas, United States

Palestine is a city in and the county seat of Anderson County in Texas, United States. As of the 2010 census, the city population was 18,712. Palestine was named for Palestine, Illinois, by preacher Daniel Parker. Another source says that it was named by migrant Micham Main for the same hometown.

Education

Myrtle Springs had its own school in 1898, and had one teacher and 43 White students. By 1932, it had become a school district, and served 117 White students and 83 Black students. The school then joined with the Elkhart Independent School District in 1955. [1]

Elkhart Independent School District is a public school district based in Elkhart, Texas (USA). The district is located in southwest Anderson County and extends into northern Houston County. A small portion of the district extends to the city of Palestine.
