Nadia Mohamed Ali (born 27 July 1974) is an Egyptian powerlifter. She has represented Egypt at the Summer Paralympics five times, in 2000, 2004, 2008, 2016 and 2024. In her first three appearances there, she had won a medal. She has also appeared in the World Para Powerlifting Championships six times, winning four medals.

Early life and education

Nadia Ali was born in Cairo, on 27 July 1974. She attended Cairo University, where she obtained a degree in history. [1]

Career

Ali began her powerlifting career in 1997. Making her debut at the World Para Powerlifting Championships in 1998, she won the gold medal in the 67.5kg category. At the 2000 Summer Paralympics, she won the bronze medal in the -67.5 kg category. [2] After winning a bronze medal in the 2002 World Championships, she competed in the 2004 Summer Paralympics, where she won the silver medal in the +82.5 kg event, a feat she repeated four years later. [2]

At the 2014 IPC Powerlifting World Championships held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, Ali won the silver medal in the women's +86 kg event. [3] She then competed in the 2019 and 2021 World Para Powerlifting Championships, where she finished in fitfh place in both. [4] [5] In 2023, Ali won the silver medal in her event at the 2023 World Para Powerlifting Championships held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. [6] At the 2024 Summer Paralympics, she won her fourth Paralympic medal by winning the bronze medal in the +86 kg event. [7] [8]

The 2014 IPC Powerlifting World Championships was a competition for male and female athletes with a disability. With 360 competitors from over 60 countries, the event surpassed the number of entrants of the 2012 Summer Paralympics of London. It was held in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates and ran from 5 to 11 April. The event was held in the Dubai Club for the Disabled.

She also represented Ukraine at the 2016 Summer Paralympics in Rio, Brazil and she won the bronze medal in the women's 1500 metres T20 event.

Melaica Tuinfort is a Dutch Paralympic powerlifter. She won the bronze medal in the women's +86 kg event at the 2016 Summer Paralympics held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Shaaban Ibrahim is an Egyptian Paralympic powerlifter. He represented Egypt at the Summer Paralympics three times: in 2008, 2012 and 2016. He won a bronze medal on each occasion; he won bronze in the men's 60 kg event in 2008, in the men's 67.5 kg event in 2012 and in the men's 65 kg event in 2016.

Hamzeh Mohammadi is an Iranian Paralympic powerlifter. He represented Iran at the 2004 Summer Paralympics, at the 2008 Summer Paralympics and at the 2016 Summer Paralympics and he won two medals: the bronze medal in the men's 67.5 kg event in 2004 and the gold medal in the men's 60 kg event in 2008.

Rehab Ahmed is an Egyptian Paralympic powerlifter. She is a two-time silver medalist at the Summer Paralympics and a three-time gold medalist at the World Para Powerlifting Championships.

Amany Ali is an Egyptian Paralympic powerlifter. She represented Egypt at the 2012 Summer Paralympics and at the 2016 Summer Paralympics and she won the bronze medal in the women's 73 kg event in 2016.

Shi Shanshan is a Chinese Paralympic powerlifter. She represented China at the 2008 Summer Paralympics, at the 2012 Summer Paralympics and at the 2016 Summer Paralympics and she won the bronze medal in the women's 48 kg event in 2012.

Olivia Broome is a para powerlifter who won a bronze medal in the under-50 kg events at the 2020 and 2024 Summer Paralympics. She is the British and world junior record holder in the under-50 kg event, and has won multiple Para Powerlifting World Cup medals. She also won the junior under-50 kg event at the 2021 World Para Powerlifting Championships, silver medal in the women's 50 kg event, and a silver medal in the lightweight event at the 2022 Commonwealth Games.

Besra Duman is a Turkish Paralympian para powerlifter who competes in the 55 kg division. She won the silver medal at the 2024 Paris Paralympic Games.

Abdelkareem Mohmmad Ahmad Khattab is a Jordanian Paralympic powerlifter. He won the gold medal in the men's 88 kg event at the 2020 Summer Paralympics held in Tokyo, Japan. He also set a new Paralympic record of 231 kg. A few months later, he won the gold medal in his event at the 2021 World Para Powerlifting Championships held in Tbilisi, Georgia. He also set a new world record of 250 kg.

Onyinyechi Mark is a Nigerian powerlifter who competes in the 61 kilograms (134 lb) bracket. She won a gold medal at the 2024 Summer Paralympics in her category. She is also a two-time medalist at the World Para Powerlifting Championships.

Fatma Elyan is an Egyptian powerlifter who has competed in the 61 kilograms (134 lb) and 67 kilograms (148 lb) brackets. She is a silver medalist at the 2023 World Para Powerlifting Championships and 2024 Summer Paralympics.
