The Namibian Defence Force (NDF) comprises the national military forces of Namibia. It was created when the country, then known as South West Africa, gained independence from apartheid South Africa in 1990. Chapter 15 of the Constitution of Namibia establishes the NDF and defines its role and purpose as, " ... to defend the territory and national interests of Namibia".
Oshana is one of the fourteen regions of Namibia, its capital is Oshakati. The towns of Oshakati, Ongwediva and Ondangwa, all situated with this region, form an urban cluster with the second largest population concentration in Namibia after the capital Windhoek. As of 2020, Oshana had 113,112 registered voters.
Omusati is one of the fourteen regions of Namibia, its capital is Outapi. The towns of Okahao, Oshikuku and Ruacana as well as the self-governed village Tsandi are situated in this region. As of 2020, Omusati had 148,834 registered voters.
Koevoet was the counterinsurgency branch of the South West African Police (SWAPOL). Its formations included white South African police officers, usually seconded from the South African Security Branch or Special Task Force, and black volunteers from Ovamboland. Koevoet was patterned after the Selous Scouts, a multiracial Rhodesian military unit which specialised in counter-insurgency operations. Its title was an allusion to the metaphor of "prying" insurgents from the civilian population.

The South Vietnamese Regional Forces, originally the Civil Guard, were a component of Army of the Republic of Vietnam (ARVN) territorial defence forces. Recruited locally, they served as full-time province-level forces, originally raised as a militia. In 1964, the Regional Forces were integrated into the ARVN and placed under the command of the Joint General Staff.
The People's Liberation Army of Namibia (PLAN) was the military wing of the South West Africa People's Organisation (SWAPO). It fought against the South African Defence Force (SADF) and South West African Territorial Force (SWATF) during the South African Border War. Throughout its history, PLAN had both irregular insurgent and semi-conventional units, as well as an extensive recruitment network in rural South West Africa (Namibia). During the war most of its domestic activities consisted of mine warfare and acts of sabotage. PLAN initially lacked any standing units, and the bulk of operations were carried out by political exiles who spent cyclical periods residing in refugee camps in neighbouring states before launching raids inside South West Africa itself. By the end of the war, PLAN had 32,000 militants under arms, including three battalions of semi-conventional troops equipped with heavy weapons.

Lieutenant General John Sinvula Mutwa was a Namibian military officer whose last appointment was as chief of the Namibian Defence Force (NDF). He was appointed the commander of the Namibian Army in 2011, and NDF Chief on 31 December 2013, a position from which he retired on 31 March 2020.

The Special Reserve Force is a division with in the Namibian Police Force. Primarily its role is a police tactical unit based on the Special Task Force of the South African Police Service. The unit was a reserve unit within Special Field Force then led by the late Ret Comm Danger Ashipala. They were first called Special Task Force in the early 90 but were disbanded in 96. They reemerged in the late 90 early 2000 and thus were called Reserve Force.
The Namibian Police Force (NAMPOL) is the national police force of Namibia. It was established by the Namibian Constitution and enacted by an act of Parliament. The Namibian Police Force replaced the South West African Police as the national police force of the country in 1990. Sebastian Ndeitunga was its inspector general since 2005 to 2022. Joseph Shikongo is the current inspector general. NAMPOL's functions are overseen by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety and Security.

Lieutenant General (rtd) Sebastian Ndeitunga is a Namibian police officer and politician, currently serving as a regional governor of Ohangwena Region. He was inspector general of the Namibian Police Force from 2005 to 2022.
Peter Hafeni Vilho is a Namibian politician and retired rear admiral who is a member of the Parliament of Namibia, a former Minister of Defence, and a former commander of the Namibian Navy. He was appointed the commander of the maritime wing of the Namibian Defence Force in 2002. In September 2017 he was appointed as executive director of the Ministry of Defence. In March 2020, Namibian president Hage Geingob appointed Vilho as the Minister of Defense and Veteran Affairs. Vilho served until his resignation in April 2021 after allegations of holding an undeclared bank account.
Rear Admiral Sinsy Ndeshi Bamba Nghipandua is a retired Namibian military officer whose last appointment served was as the Commander of the Namibian Navy. He was appointed the Commander of the Namibian Navy in 2017. Prior to that he served as Commander of Naval Operations with the rank of Rear Admiral.
Henock Sheya ya Kasita was a Namibian politician who was the deputy minister of lands and resettlement from 2008 to 2010. He previously was deputy minister of mines and energy from 2003 to 2008, SWAPO chief whip in the National Council from 1994 to 2003. He was a member of the National Council for Oshana Region from 1993 to 2010, and a founding councilor for Okaku Constituency in 1993 until 2010. He was also deputy chairperson for the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) National Group from 1996 to 2000, and became its chairperson from 2000 to 2004.
Kornelia Kashiimbindjola Shilunga is a Namibian politician and member of the National Assembly since 2015, she currently serves as the Deputy Minister of Mines and Energy. and became the first women Deputy Minister at the Ministry. Shilunga constructed a satisfactory employment history. The assiduous Deputy Minister worked in various positions as a teacher and a registered nurse.
Brigadier General Karel Christopher Ndjoba was a Namibian military officer whose last appointment was as Defence Attaché to Germany. His father Cornelius Tuhafeni Ndjoba was chief minister of Ovamboland.
Lieutenant General Joseph Shimweelao Shikongo is the Inspector General of Namibian Police Force. He was appointed by President Hage Geingob on the 22 August 2022, Shikongo resume his duty officially on the 1 September 2022. Shikongo is replacing the retired Lieutenant General Sebastian Ndeitunga.
