The Namibian Police Force (NAMPOL) is the national police force of Namibia. It was established by the Namibian Constitution and enacted by an act of Parliament. The Namibian Police Force replaced the South West African Police as the national police force of the country in 1990. Sebastian Ndeitunga was its inspector general since 2005 to 2022. Joseph Shikongo is the current inspector general. [1] NAMPOL's functions are overseen by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety and Security. [2]
The force is headed by an inspector general (IG) who holds the rank of lieutenant general. The IG has two deputies who both hold the rank of major general. The two deputy inspectors general are responsible for administration and operations. [3]
All police operations in Namibia's 14 regions are headed by a regional commander with the rank of commissioner. The Khomas region hosting the seat of government and capital city is an exception as the regional commander is a major general. [4]

The Water Wing Directorate is small and consists of a number of swampboats stationed in Zambezi Region and a patrol boat in Walvis Bay.
The Namibian Defence Force (NDF) comprises the national military forces of Namibia. It was created when the country, then known as South West Africa, gained independence from apartheid South Africa in 1990. Chapter 15 of the Constitution of Namibia establishes the NDF and defines its role and purpose as, " ... to defend the territory and national interests of Namibia".
After the creation of the Statute of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, the Royal Netherlands Army was entrusted with the defence of Suriname, while the defence of the Netherlands Antilles was the responsibility of the Royal Netherlands Navy. The army set up a separate Netherlands Armed Forces in Suriname. Upon independence in 1975, this force was turned into the Surinamese Armed Forces. On February 25, 1980, a group of 15 non-commissioned officers and one junior officer, under the leadership of sergeant major Dési Bouterse, staged a coup d'état and overthrew the Government. Subsequently, the SKM was rebranded as the National Army.
The Philippine National Police is the armed national police force in the Philippines. Its national headquarters is located at Camp Crame in Bagong Lipunan ng Crame, Quezon City. Currently, it has approximately 228,000 personnel to police a population in excess of 100 million.
The South West African Police (SWAPOL) was the national police force of South West Africa, responsible for law enforcement and public safety in South West Africa when the territory was administered by South Africa. It was organised and structured both as a paramilitary force and as a civil police force.

It encompasses border guards, VIP Protection Unit and Installation unit. Approximately half of the Namibian Police's (NAMPOL) overall complement is assigned to the SFF which is made up primarily of combatants from the former People's Liberation Army of Namibia (PLAN) and South West African Territorial Force (SWATF).
Sashastra Seema Bal is a border guarding force of India deployed along its borders with Nepal and Bhutan. It is one of the seven Central Armed Police Forces under the administrative control of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).

A shootout took place on 17 June 2009 between the Indian dacoit Ghanshyam Nishad alias Naam and 400 members of the local police force of the Chitrakoot village in Jamauli in Uttar Pradesh. An initial force of 3 constables who attempted to arrest Nishad were stuck in the same building with him and one of them was killed. The 48-hour siege ended on 19 June with 5 dead including the perpetrator.
The Ghana Police Service (GPS) is the main law enforcement agency of Ghana. The service is under the control of the Ghanaian Ministry of the Interior, and employs over 30,000 officers across its 651 stations.
The Namibian Navy is the maritime warfare branch of the Namibian Defence Force.
The Special Reserve Force is a division with in the Namibian Police Force. Primarily its role is a police tactical unit based on the Special Task Force of the South African Police Service. The unit was a reserve unit within Special Field Force then led by the late Ret Comm Danger Ashipala. They were first called Special Task Force in the early 90 but were disbanded in 96. They reemerged in the late 90 early 2000 and thus were called Reserve Force.
Lieutenant General Joseph Shimweelao Shikongo is the Inspector General of Namibian Police Force. He was appointed by President Hage Geingob on the 22 August 2022, Shikongo resume his duty officially on the 1 September 2022. Shikongo is replacing the retired Lieutenant General Sebastian Ndeitunga.
Naftal Lungameni Sakaria is a Namibian Police officer. Sakaria started his policing career on May 1, 1996, and received his basic training at the Oudtshoorn Police Training College in South Africa. Prior to serving in the current position, he served as the head of the Special Reserve Force, and appointed as police regional commander for Oshana Region, Namibia. When he was promoted to the Oshana regional commander in August 2022, he commenced his duties with his first crime-prevention operation, called "Operation Lungameni", which is loosely translated as 'to be wise', and the operation was launched at Ondangwa. In November 2022,Naftal urged men to cry more when they are faced with challenges to ease their pain.
Christina Jackbin Nanghali Van-Dunem Da Fonsech-Shikongo is a Namibian police officer. She holds the rank of chief inspector in the Namibian Police Force and is known as the "Nampol Iron Lady" for her role in establishing and revamping the community policing initiatives especially in the Khomas region. She is also known for cracking down fake pastors and unscrupulous traditional healers.
