Nagar Baul (English: Urban Baul) [1] is a Bangladeshi rock band that was founded in Chittagong in 1977 by Kumar Bishwajit. [2] [3] [4] The band is considered to be one of the pioneers of rock and blues music in the country [5] in Bangladesh. [6] [7] The frontman of the band, James, is referred to as the Guru of Rock as a mark of respect. [8]

History

Nagar Baul started in 1977 and was originally named Feelings and was formed by Kumar Bishwajit. [9] Band members included Ayub Bachchu and James. [9] Ayub Bachchu left the bank in 1980 to join Souls. [9]

They released their first album, Station Road. [10] James, lead vocal and guitarist, [11] composed all the tracks, and wrote the lyrics for five of them. Though the album was not a hit, the tracks Ager Jonome, Amai Jete Dao and Rupshagor enjoyed moderate success.

In 1993, they released their second album Jail Theke Bolchhi. This album was a major hit, and Feelings became a mainstream band. [12]

In 1996, they released their third album Nagar Baul. The Daily Star wrote, "Nagar Baul introduced Bangladesh to a whole new way of singing". [13] It had the "classic" and "iconic" song, "Taray Taray Rotiye Debo", based on the poem 'Uttor' by great poet Shamsur Rahman. [14]

In 1998, they released their fourth album Lais Fita Lais. [15]

In 1999, the band was renamed from Feelings to Nagar Baul.

In 2001, their fifth album was released Dushtur Cheler Dol. [16] This was their first album release under the new band name Nagar Baul, named after their album from 1996.

Ark is a Bangladeshi rock band formed in 1991 in Dhaka City by keyboardist Ashiquzzaman Tulu. The original founder members are Ashiquzzaman Tulu, Ridwan Nabi Pancham and Shamim. Faruq Mahfuz Anam James, known mononymously as James, is a Bangladeshi singer-songwriter, guitarist and composer, also known as a playback singer. He is the lead singer, songwriter and guitarist of the rock band Nagar Baul . He is often referred by the name "Guru" which means "Master" or "Teacher".

Bangladeshi rock music, or Bangla rock music, is a style of music in Bangladesh that is derived from British and American rock music, mixed with the Bengali classical and Adhunik musical styles from the 1960s. The genre was introduced in the 1960s by a few bands who began developing a distinctive rock sound. Bangladeshi rock is commonly divided into two categories: East Pakistan rock, and Bangladesh rock. Tanzir Tuhin is a Bangladeshi musician, singer-songwriter, actor, painter, and architect, best known as a longtime member of the independent music group Shironamhin. He joined the group as lead vocalist in 2000. Shironamhin subsequently achieved national success with their albums Bondho Janala, Shironamhin Rabindranath and Shironamhin Shironamhin. By the late 2000s, they had become one of the most well-known group in the rock music history of Bangladesh. Amid personal conflict, Tuhin left Shironamhin in 2017 and form a new band named Avash at the end of that year.

Ferari Mon: Unplugged Live is a live album by Bangladeshi rock band LRB. It was released on September 15, 1996 by Soundtek Electronics. The album features an acoustic performance recorded at Kinnari Restaurant in Dhaka on January 8, 1996. It also features Sunil Chandra Das, who plays violin in the album. It was the first live album by any Bangladeshi artist and the only live album of LRB.

ময়না (Moyna) is the second studio album by Bangladeshi singer-songwriter Ayub Bachchu, released on 1 December 1988 by Sargam Records. Despite his lack of success with his debut album "রক্ত গোলাপ ", this album was both commercially successful and well received by fans. Bachchu got his breakthrough with this album, including hit songs like "ময়না (Moyna)", "শুভ্র ভোরে ".

"Cholo Bodle Jai" is a song by the Bangladeshi rock band LRB, released in mid-1993. It was both written and composed by Ayub Bachchu, for the band's third studio album "সুখ (Happiness)". It is often referred to as one of the greatest bangla rock songs.

Bangladeshi heavy metal or Bangla heavy metal was originated from the evolution of British and American heavy metal bands of the 1980s. Bands like Iron Maiden, Metallica and Megadeth have had the greatest influences on Bangladeshi heavy metal musicians. Other 1970s bands to influence are bands like Deep Purple, Black Sabbath and Motörhead. The first bands to play heavy metal in Bangladesh were bands like Warfaze and Rockstrata. The most prominent era for heavy metal movement was between the early 1990s to early 2000s. Warfaze, Rockstrata, Aces and in Dhaka are often considered as the "big four founders of heavy metal". Other 2000s metal bands are bands like Artcell, Aurthohin, Cryptic Fate, Powersurge, Mechanix, Metal Maze, Vibe and Stentorian. Alternative bands like Nemesis, Arbovirus and Black also played some alternative metal songs over the years. Warfaze, Artcell and Aurthohin together are the most popular rock/metal trio of Bangladesh.

The discography of the Bangladeshi rock band Love Runs Blind consists of fourteen studio albums, one live album, five music downloads, two compilation albums, fifteen music videos and appeared on six mixed albums. Formed in Chittagong in 1991, their first lineup consisted of vocalist and guitarist Ayub Bachchu, keyboardist S.I. Tutul, bass guitarist Saidul Hasan Swapan and drummer Habib Anwar Joy. Their first studio album LRB I and LRB II was released in 1992 and was a double album, which was the first ever double album in Bangladesh.

<i>Rupali Guitar</i> (sculpture)

The Rupali Guitar is an iron and steel sculpture which was created in memory of Ayub Bachchu, a legendary singer from Bangladesh and founder of Bangladeshi band LRB. The sculpture takes its name from the title of a song from the album Ferari Mon (1996). It is situated in Probortok Mor in Chittagong. The new name of Probortok Mor is Ayub Bachchu Chattar. The front of this sculpture is visible as it moves from the Golpahar Mor to the promoter turning point. The sculpture was unveiled on 18 September 2019. The sculpture was inaugurated by mayor A J M Nasir Uddin.

Meghdol is an indie rock band from Bangladesh, known for its poetic urban-themed lyrics and theatrical musical arrangement. Founded in 2003, the band has released two studio albums.
