Naim Ahmed, also spelled Naeem Ahmed, is a retired additional inspector general and former commissioner of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police. [1] [2] He is a former principal of the Bangladesh Police Academy. [3] [4] He was the rector of Police Staff College. [5] He is the former chief of the Special Branch. [6]

Career

Ahmed had served as the Deputy Inspector General of Rajshahi Range. [7] He was appointed chief of the Special Branch replacing ABM Bazlur Rahman in January 2007. [7] He served in that position for 48 hours. [7]

Ahmed was appointed commissioner of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police in January 2007. [6] He was awarded the President Police Medal in April 2007 by Chief Adviser of the Caretaker government Fakhruddin Ahmed. [8] He allowed Harkatul Jihad Al Islami-Bangladesh to launch a political party called Islamic Democratic Party with support from the caretaker government. [9]

Ahmed inaugurated the building housing the newly created the command, control and communications systems of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police in August 2007. [10] He established a complaint mechanism to lodge complaints against police officers. [11] He participated in the Police Reform Project organized by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Bangladesh Police, United Nations Development Programme, Department for International Development, and Bangladesh Election Commission. [12] He launched the Special Women Police Contingent saying "In many cases, male detectives do not have access to the world of women criminals. To deal with those criminals, women police and detectives will be helpful". [13] He established the Political Intelligence Office of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police which was scrapped following criticism by Awami League and the Bangladesh Nationalist Party. [14] He called for reforms to turn the police into a service-oriented organization. [15]

Ahmed was the commissioner of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police during the Bangladesh Rifles revolt. [16] His unit captured 100 mutineers who were trying to escape in civilian clothing. [16] In March 2009, Ahmed was made the rector of Police Staff College. [17] AKM Shahidul Huq replaced him as commissioner of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police. [17]

From 31 January 2012 to 17 December 2015, Ahmed was the principal of the Bangladesh Police Academy. [18] He oversaw the centenary celebration of the Police Academy in 2012 where Prime Miniter Sheikh Hasina was the chief guest. [19]

Hawa Bhaban is the political office of the chairperson of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party, and monitors party affairs on the chair's behalf. Anwarul Iqbal was an adviser of 2007–2009 interim caretaker government of Bangladesh. He was appointed as Local Government and Rural Development Minister & Labour Minister of the non-party interim caretaker government of Bangladesh on 17 January 2007 and remained in that post until elections were held two years later. Later he was given the charge of the Jute & Textile Ministry. He had the responsibility to head three ministries of the government of Bangladesh. He served as the 25th Inspector General of Bangladesh police. He went into voluntary retirement from the IGP post after he had been made officer on special duty and within few days he took charge as the adviser of the caretaker government headed by Fakhruddin Ahmed during the state of emergency in Bangladesh which was declared on 11 January 2007.

Gulzar Uddin Ahmed, also known as Colonel Gulzar Ahmed, was the founding director of the intelligence wing and also served Additional Director General of Rapid Action Battalion. Until his death, he was a Colonel of the Bangladesh Army and also Sector Commander and Deputy Director General of Bangladesh Rifles.

It was formed by the Fakhruddin Ahmed led caretaker government during the 2006–2008 Bangladeshi political crisis and was led by Bangladesh Army officers.

Abdus Sobhan Sikder is a retired Bangladeshi senior secretary and former ambassador of Bangladesh to Italy. He is the former principal secretary to prime minister Sheikh Hasina. He is a former secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs.

SM Mizanur Rahman is a retired police officer and former director general of the Rapid Action Battalion. He is a former commissioner of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police.
