Philip Boakye Dua Oyinka, popularly known as Nana Asaase [1] is a poet, [2] [3] literary coach and writer. [4] [5] He is also a member of the National Folklore Board. [6] He was born on 12 December and comes from Koforidua in the Eastern Region of Ghana. Nana Asaase, a name which means "King of the Earth" in the Akan dialect Twi, was conferred on him by his grandmother. [1] He blends English with Twi. [7]

Education

For his secondary education, Nana Asaase attended St. Augustine's College, Cape Coast. In 2010, he was awarded a bachelor's degree in English and History from the University of Ghana, Legon. [8] [9]

Career

He was a public relations assistant at Saatchi & Saatchi from 2010 to 2011. In 2011, he became the public relations executive at Global Media Alliance for a year and is currently a literary couch at Asaase Inscription. [8] As of December 2022, he was serving his second term as the Secretary of the Ghana National Folklore Board's governing board. He holds the Digital Reading ambassadorial role for the Ghana Library App. [10]

Awards and recognition

He was acknowledged for his contributions in putting Ghanaian poetry in the limelight. This was at the first edition of the Ghana Writers Awards. [16]

Cyril-Alex Gockel, who is known by his stage name C-Real, is a Ghanaian rapper, record producer, entrepreneur, writer and poet. David Kwame Dontoh and affectionately called Uncle David, "Ghanaman" and "Kofi Abranteɛ", is a veteran Ghanaian actor and television personality who has starred in numerous local and international films, drama, theatre, and other stage productions. He has been very influential in the development of television and drama, especially during the golden age of theatre in Ghana in the 80s and 90s. He took up acting in 1980 after seeing a National Film and Television Institute (NAFTI) newspaper advert inviting potential actors to come forward for training in stage and film acting. His first NAFTI film was The Way To Shame, a short seven minute stage production which was directed by Alex Bannerman as part of his formal assessment in drama production. Alex who was a student of NAFTI at the time had chanced upon David and persuaded him to play the lead role as the intended person had not showed up during shooting. The film's assessment panel, especially Mike Hagan, recognised David's potential in theatre and drama and highlighted this to the young Alex Bannerman. Subsequently, David's acting potential became more noticed when he played the lead role in Gus: The Theatre Cat, a short stage adaptation of a poem by T. S. Eliot. The play was directed by George Andoh Wilson of Wilson Acting Academy fame.
