The Nantes tram-train (French : Tram-train de Nantes) is a tram-train network operating in the French city of Nantes and the surrounding region.
The Nantes to Châteaubriant railway line was part of a former Nantes to Rennes railway route which originally opened in 1877. The Nantes to Châteaubriant section closed to passenger traffic in 1980 and to freight in 2008. [1] Approval to modernise this line received approval in 2009; [2] and in 2014, the line reopened for exclusive use of the Nantes tram-train network, becoming the second line to operate after an existing line to Clisson opened in 2011, sharing track with mainline trains.

A tram-train is a type of light rail vehicle that both meets the standards of a light rail system, and also national mainline standards. Tramcars are adapted to be capable of running on streets like an urban tramway but also be permitted operation alongside mainline trains. This allows services that can utilise both existing urban light rail systems and mainline railway networks and stations. It combines the urban accessibility of a tram or light rail with a mainline train's greater speed in the suburbs.
The Île-de-France tramways is a network of modern tram lines in the Île-de-France region of France. Fourteen lines are currently operational, with extensions and additional lines in both construction and planning stages. Although the system mainly runs in the suburban regions of Paris, lines T3a and T3b run entirely within Paris city limits, while lines T2 and T9 start their routes within Paris' borders. While lines operate independently of each other and are generally unconnected, some connections do exist: between lines T2 and T3a, T3a and T3b, T1 and T5, T1 and T8, T8 and T11 Express, T3a and T9 and T6 and T10. However, the final design of the entire planned tram network is fairly integrated.
The Grenoble tramway is the tram system in the city of Grenoble in the Rhône-Alpes region of France. In 1987, Grenoble became the second French city to reintroduce trams, the first being the Nantes tramway. The current network is 35-kilometre (22 mi) long, and comprises five lines: lines A, B, C, D and E. Line A was opened in 1987, line B in 1990, line C on 20 May 2006, line D in October 2007 and line E on 28 June 2014.

The Strasbourg tramway, run by the CTS, is a network of six tramlines, A, B, C, D, E and F that operate in the cities of Strasbourg in Alsace, France, and Kehl in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. It is one of the few tram networks to cross an international border, along with the trams of Basel and Geneva. The first tramline in Strasbourg, which was originally horse-drawn, opened in 1878. After 1894, when an electric-powered tram system was introduced, a widespread network of tramways was built, including several longer-distance lines on both sides of the Rhine.
Nantes station is the principal passenger railway station serving the French city of Nantes. It is a through station aligned east–west, with entrances and station facilities on both north and south sides. The two entrances are often described as Gare Nord and Gare Sud, as if they were separate stations, but they are in fact linked to each other and to all the platforms by a pedestrian subway. In 2020, after 3 years of work, a new pedestrian aerial way has been built over the railways to facilitate the passengers flow.

Although nearly all of the country's tram systems were replaced by bus services in the 1930s or shortly after the Second World War, France is now in the forefront of the revival of tramways and light rail systems around the globe. Only tram lines in Lille and Saint-Étienne have operated continuously since the 19th century; the Marseille tramway system ran continuously until 2004 and only closed then for 3 years for extensive refurbishment into a modern tram network. Since the opening of the Nantes tramway in 1985, more than twenty towns and cities across France have built new tram lines. As of 2024, there are 28 operational tram networks in France, with 3 more planned. France is also home to Alstom, a leading tram manufacturer.
The tram-train de l'ouest lyonnais is a tram-train network in the urban area of Lyon in the region Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, with two lines departing from Lyon-Saint-Paul station. This network is managed as a part of the TER Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes regional train system and it is operated by SNCF Voyageurs.

The Besançon Tram network dated back to a horse tram service inaugurated in 1887. The first two electric tram lines began operating in 1897, joined later by more. However, the system, which used only single tracks for its two lines, was badly damaged during World War II from which its finances also emerged in a parlous condition. In 1952, the operation having run out of funding possibilities, the Besançon trams were withdrawn: a city bus service was inaugurated in December 1952.
The City-Bahn Chemnitz is a railway company which operates tram-train and regional rail services in and around Chemnitz, in Saxony, Germany. The tram-train services run both on the railway network and the urban tram network in Chemnitz. City-Bahn Chemnitz was founded on March 10, 1997.
The Régiolis is a category of multiple unit train built by Alstom coming from the Coradia family. The first train was presented on July 4, 2013, in Aquitaine, and the first commissioning took place on April 22, 2014, on the TER Aquitaine network, more than a year behind the initial schedule.
Chengdu Tram Line 2 is a tram line in Chengdu, China. The line has a total length of 39.3 kilometres (24.4 mi) and 35 stations. It has a 'Y' layout and runs from the Chengdu West railway station to Pixian West railway station and Hongguang. The line was officially started in December 2015, and the 13.7 km (8.5 mi) demonstration section of the line was opened on 26 December 2018, and the remaining sections were opened on 27 December 2019.
