The Napa Valley Register is a daily newspaper located in Napa, California.
The paper began publication on August 10, 1863. [2] [3] [4] By 1864, the newspaper had dropped “Valley” from its name, becoming simply the Napa Register, [5] until returning to the original name over a century later. [6] The Register moved to daily publication in 1872.
George M. Francis became sole owner of the Register in 1878, upon the death of his business partner. Francis was succeeded in ownership by his son George H. Francis in 1932. [7] The paper remained with Francis and various partners until 1958, when it was sold to Scripps League Newspapers [7] Scripps was acquired by Pulitzer in 1996, and Pulitzer was acquired by Lee Enterprises in 2005. [8]
The paper's editor as of 2022 is Dan Evans. [9] The Napa Valley Register is published by Napa Valley Publishing, which also publishes the St. Helena Star , The Weekly Calistogan, and American Canyon Eagle, and operates the website Inside Napa Valley. Evans unveiled a newly reconstituted editorial board in October 2022. The board is made up of three members of the newspaper's staff and seven community members. It will assist in driving the official opinion of the paper. [10]
In April 2023, the paper laid off two employees. [11] Starting July 18, 2023, the print edition of the newspaper will be reduced to three days a week: Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Also, the newspaper will transition from being delivered by a traditional newspaper delivery carrier to mail delivery by the U.S. Postal Service. [12]
In September 2024, Napa Valley Publishing, which publishes the paper, was sold by Lee Enterprises to Hoffmann Media Group. [7]

The 78,632-square-foot (7,305.2 m2) museum had galleries, two theaters, classrooms, a demonstration kitchen, a restaurant, a rare book library, and a 3.5-acre (1.4 ha) vegetable and herb garden; there it hosted wine and food tasting programs, exhibitions, films, and concerts. The main and permanent exhibition of the museum, "Forks in the Road", explained the origins of cooking through to modern advances. The museum's establishment benefited the city of Napa and the development and gentrification of its downtown.
