He was serving as the Federal Minister for Narcotics Control,was in office since 11 December 2020. Previously,he served as the Federal Minister for interior from April 2019 to 11 December 2020 and Minister of Parliamentary Affairs from March 2019 to April 2019. He was a member of the National Assembly of Pakistan from August 2018 till July 2022.

Grade 22 is the highest attainable rank for a Civil Servant in Pakistan. Grade 22 is equal to a 4-star rank of the Pakistan Armed Forces. With over five hundred thousand civil servants and bureaucrats in Pakistan,only a few dozen officers serve in BPS-22 grade at a given time. Hence,not even 1% of the country's civil servants and/or bureaucrats make it to the highest rank. Officers serving in BPS-22 grade are largely considered to be the most influential individuals in the country.

Kamran Lashari is a Pakistani retired civil servant of the Pakistan Administrative Service who served in BPS-22 grade at the top bureaucratic offices including as Petroleum Secretary of Pakistan and Chief Secretary Sindh. Lashari is best known for his five-year stint as chairman of the Capital Development Authority during the government of Pervez Musharraf.
