Mendez competed at the International Racquetball Federation (IRF) Junior World Championships in 2007 in Cochabamba, Bolivia, where she won Girl’s U10, beating Mexican Karla Gascon, 15-4, 15-1, in the final.[1] But she lost in the Girl’s U12 final at World Juniors in 2009 in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, to Mexican Diana Aguilar, 15-7, 15-13.[2] However, in 2009, Mendez played Girls U14 Doubles with Masiel Rivera, and they were runners-up to the USA’s Kelani Bailey and Abbey Lavely, losing the final, 15-7, 15-10.[3]
Mendez and Augilar also met in the Girl’s U12 final at World Juniors in 2010 in Los Angeles with the same result: a win for Aguilar, 15-5, 15-9.[4] But she also play U14 Girls Singles in Los Angeles and she won, defeating Mexican Ximena Gonzalez in the final, 8-15, 15-12, 11-9.[5]
Mendez reached the Girls U14 Singles final at the 2011 World Juniors in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, where she lost to Diana Aguilar of Mexico, 11-15, 15-10, 11-5, once again.[6] She also played Girls U16 Singles, and lost to Venezuela’s Mariana Tobon in the Round of 16, 15-13, 13-15, 11-1.[7]
The 2012 Girls U14 Singles final at Los Angeles was a rematch of 2011, and Aguilar again defeated Mendez, 14-15, 15-13, 11-3.[8] But Mendez found success in the Girls U16 Singles that year, as she won that division by defeating Ximenez Gonzalez of Mexico in the final, 15-11, 15-12.[9]
Mendez and Diana Aguilar of Mexico met once again in a final at World Juniors in 2013. This time it was Girls U16 Singles in Sucre, Bolivia, where Aguilar again got the best of Mendez, winning 15-13, 7-15, 11-2.[10] Mendez was 2nd in Girls U16 Doubles also that year, playing with Iriana Avendaño.[11]
Mendez played at the Pan American Championships for the first time in 2014 in Santa Cruz, Bolivia, representing her native land at home. In Santa Cruz, she played Women’s Singles, and lost to Canadian Frédérique Lambert, 15-8, 12-15, 11-1, in the Round of 16.[12]
At the 2014 World Junior Championships in Cali, Colombia, Mendez lost in the quarterfinals of Girls U16 Singles to team-mate Hawira Rojas, 9-15, 15-7, 11-8.[13] But Mendez did reach the semi-finals of Girls U18 Singles, losing to Mexico’s Alexandra Herrera, 15-6, 15-3.[14]
Mendez won Girls U18 Singles in 2015 in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, where she defeated Dominican Maria Cespedes in the final, 15-9, 15-3.[15] She played doubles with Wanda Carvajal that year, and they lost in the semi-finals to Costa Ricans Melania Sauma and Sofia Soley, 15-8, 7-15, 11-3.[16]
Mendez attended her first Pan American Games in Toronto in 2015, when she played in Women’s Doubles and in the Women's Team event. In doubles, Mendez and Carola Loma defeated Gabriela Martinez and Maria Renee Rodriguez of Guatemala in the Round of 16, 10-15, 15-11, 11-5, but then lost to Mexicans Paola Longoria and Samantha Salas, 15-9, 15-0, in the quarterfinals. In the Women’s Team event Bolivia lost to Ecuador, 2-0, in the quarterfinals.
She began to play the Ladies Professional Racquetball Tour (LPRT) in 2016, and competed in 8 of the 12 events the 2016-17 season. She reached the quarterfinals three times, and finished the season ranked 12th.[17]
2017 to present - Playing for Argentina and on the LPRT
When Mendez played at the Pan American Championships for a second time, she was representing Argentina in San José, Costa Rica in 2017. In Women’s Singles, she lost in the Round of 16 to Guatemalan Gabriela Martinez, 15-4, 15-2.[18] In doubles, Mendez and Véronique Guillemette lost in the quarterfinals to Gabriela Martinez and Andrea Martinez (Guatemala), 15-6, 15-9.[19]
Mendez got the semi-finals of the US Open Racquetball Championships in 2017, and was just a few points from the final, as she lost to Frédérique Lambert, 11-8, 2-11, 11-2, 7-11, 11-8.[20] She also reached the semis at the Battle of the Alamo LPRT tournament in April 2018. These results helped her finish 7th at the end of the 2017-18 LPRT season.[17]
Mendez played at the 2018 Pan American Championships in Temuco, Chile in March 2018. In Women’s Singles, she lost to the Gabriela Martinez in a tie-breaker, 15-12, 10-15, 11-2, in the quarterfinals.[21] In Women's Doubles, Mendez partnered with Maria Jose Vargas, and they lost to Mexicans Paola Longoria and Alexandra Herrera, 15-14, 15-6., in the quarterfinals.[22]
Mendez was a double gold medalist at the 2018 South American Games in Cochabamba, Bolivia. In Women’s Doubles, Mendez and Maria Jose Vargas beat Bolivians Stefanny Barrios and Jenny Daza, in the doubles final, 15-11, 15-10. They also defeated Bolivia in the Women's Team competition. In Women’s Singles, she lost to Colombian Cristina Amaya, 15-4, 15-4, in the quarterfinals.
At the 2019 Pan American Championships in Barranquilla, Colombia, Mendez reached the semi-finals in Women’s Singles, as she beat Mexico’s Montserrat Mejia in the quarterfinals, 15-13, 15-13. But in the semis, she lost to her Argentina team-mate Maria Jose Vargas, 15-9, 14-15, 11-7. In Women’s Doubles, Mendez and Vargas beat Chileans Carla Muñoz and Josefa Parada, 15-7, 15-8, in the Round of 16, but they lost in the quarterfinals to Longoria and Samantha Salas of Mexico, 15-7, 15-6.
In the 2018-19 LPRT season, Mendez didn’t reach a semi-final, but she played all 10 events and was in eight quarterfinals. Mendez ended the season ranked 6th.[17][20]
Mendez played at the 2019 Pan American Games in Lima, Peru, which was her 2nd Pan Am Games, but first for Argentina. She got to the semi-finals in Women’s Singles. Mendez beat Guatemala’s Gabriela Martinez, 15-10, 12-15, 11-6, in the Round of 16, and Ecuador’s Maria Paz Muñoz in the quarterfinals, 15-5, 10-15, 11-7. In the semi-finals, Mendez lost to Mexican Paola Longoria, 15-10, 15-10. In Women’s Doubles, she and Maria Jose Vargas beat Canadians Frédérique Lambert and Jennifer Saunders, 15-9, 15-9, in the quarterfinals, but lost to Guatemalans Martinez and Maria Renee Rodriguez in the semi-finals, 15-9, 10-15, 11-1. Then in the Women’s Team event, Mendez and Vargas were runners-up to Mexico. Thus, Mendez took home three medals - one silver and two bronze - from Lima.
So far in the 2018-19 LPRT season Mendez has been in one semi-final - the 3rd of his career - and three quarterfinals out of five events.[20]
Mendez won two gold medals at the 2022 Pan American Racquetball Championships. She won gold in Women's Doubles with Maria Jose Vargas, defeating Mexicans Alexandra Herrera and Samantha Salas in the final, 15-14, 14-15, 15-10, 8-15, 11-9.[23] She also helped Argentina to gold in the Women's Team event, when they defeated Canada in the quarterfinals, the USA in the semi-finals, and Mexico in the final.[24] Mendez also played in Women's Singles, but lost in the quarterfinals to Gabriela Martinez of Guatemala, 12-15, 14-15, 15-11, 15-13, 11-8.[25]
Mendez medalled twice at the 2022 World Championships. In singles, she lost to Mexican Alexandra Herrera in the quarterfinals, 11-8, 11-3, 11-8.[26] In the Women's Doubles final, she and Valeria Centellas lost to Mexicans Paola Longoria and Samantha Salas in five games, 11-6, 15-17, 11-9, 9-11, 12-10, resulting in a silver medal.[27] In the Women's Team event, Mendez earned a bronze medal, as Argentina reached the semi-finals, but then lost to Bolivia.[28]
Rhonda Rajsich is an American racquetball player. She has been World Champion in Women's Singles twice, and Pan American Champion 6 times, as well as US Open champion four times. Rajsich was the #1 player on the Ladies Professional Racquetball Tour season ending rankings four times – three straight seasons from 2005–06 to 2007-08 and then again in 2010–11. She is of Serbian descent.
Paola Michelle Longoria López is a Mexican racquetball player. She is the current Women's World Champion in both Singles and Doubles, winning both divisions at the 2022 International Racquetball Federation (IRF) World Championships in San Luis Potosi. Longoria is the winningest player in IRF World Championship history, and she is the only woman to win both singles and doubles at Worlds. Longoria is also the #1 player on the Ladies Professional Racquetball Tour (LPRT) tour, and was the first Mexican woman to attain the #1 pro ranking, doing so at the end of the 2008–09 season. She repeated the feat at the end of 2009–2010 season, and has been #1 for ten consecutive seasons. Longoria's style is characterized by a semi-western grip of the racquet, which is unusual for racquetball; Longoria is the only pro player using this grip style.
Kristen Walsh Bellows is a retired American racquetball player. She represented the USA on four occasions, winning gold in Women's Singles at the 2005 Pan American Championships. On the women's professional racquetball tour, Walsh Bellows won once, and was twice ranked 4th in the season ending rankings. She was also a five-time USA Racquetball (USAR) collegiate champion.
Samantha Salas Solís is a Mexican racquetball player. Salas is the current World Champion in both Women's Doubles - winning that title for a fifth time with Paola Longoria at the 2022 World Championships in San Luis Potosí, Mexico - and Mixed Doubles with Rodrigo Montoya. She is also the current Pan American Games Champion in Women's Doubles, winning that title with Longoria for a third consecutive time in 2019 in Lima. Salas was the second Mexican woman to finish in the top 10 rankings on the women's pro tour, doing so at the end of the 2006–07 season. Salas was ranked 3rd at the end of the 2019-20 Ladies Professional Racquetball Tour (LPRT) season, which was her tenth season in the top 10.
María José Vargas is a Bolivian-born Argentine racquetball player. She is the current Pan American Champion in Women's Singles, as well as the Women's Team event. Vargas is also the current South American Racquetball Champion in Women's Singles and Doubles. Vargas has eight wins on the Ladies Professional Racquetball Tour (LPRT), and has finished in the top 10 seven times - five of those were within the top three with her career best coming in 2014-15, when she finished #2.
Frédérique Lambert is a Canadian racquetball player. Lambert is the current Canadian Champion in Women's Singles and Women's Doubles, and has won nine Canadian Championships: five in Women's Singles and four in Women's Doubles. She has been a member of the Canadian National Team since 2008, and has won several medals in international competitions, including a silver medal in Mixed Doubles at the 2022 World Championships. Lambert was the #2 ranked player in back to back Ladies Professional Racquetball Tour (LPRT) seasons: 2016-17 and 2017-18.
Daniel de la Rosa is a Mexican racquetball and pickleball player. De La Rosa is the current International Racquetball Federation (IRF) World Champion in Men's doubles, winning the title in 2022 in his home city of San Luis Potosí, Mexico. He's won 12 times on the International Racquetball Tour (IRT), including the 2021 US Open. De La Rosa is the first Mexican player to win the US Open, and he was the second Mexican player to win an IRT Tier 1 event.
Carla Muñoz Montesinos is a Chilean professional racquetball player. She has won multiple medals, including the three consecutive gold medals in the USA Racquetball National Intercollegiate Championships in 2016, 2017, and 2018. In 2014, Munoz was awarded Best Racquetball Player of the Year by the Chilean Journalist Association. She plays for the Ladies Professional Racquetball Tour and is currently ranked #10 in the world.
Sebastian Franco is a Colombian racquetball player. Franco is a former International Racquetball Federation (IRF) World Champion in Men's Doubles, winning the title in 2014 with Alejandro Herrera. In 2018, Franco became the first South American to win a tournament on the International Racquetball Tour (IRT), when he won the March Madness event in San Antonio. He finished the IRT's Top 10 four straight seasons – from 2015–16 to 2018–19 – with a career high ranking of 6th in 2017–18.
Gabriela Martinez is a Guatemalan racquetball player. Martinez is the current Pan American Games Champion in women's doubles. She is a former International Racquetball Federation (IRF) World Champion in the women's singles, winning the title at the 2018 World Championships. Martinez has competed on the Guatemala National Team at international tournaments since 2012, garnering many medals across her career.
Carlos Keller is a Bolivian racquetball player. Keller was on the Bolivian Men's Team that won back to back gold medals at the Pan American Games in 2019 and 2023. Their first gold medal at the 2019 games in Lima, Peru was Bolivia's first racquetball gold medal at the Pan Am Games, and they successfully defended that gold at the 2023 Games in Santiago, Chile. He was also part of the Bolivian men's team that won gold at the 2022 Pan American Racquetball Championships, which was Keller's third gold medal at Pan Am Championships to go with his two Men's Singles titles, won in 2018 and 2019.
Mario Mercado is a Bolivian-born Colombian racquetball player. He has won several medals for Colombia, highlighted by a silver medal at the 2019 Pan American Games in the men's team event. He has also won on the International Racquetball Tour.
Rodrigo Montoya is a Mexican racquetball player. He is the current International Racquetball Federation (IRF) World Champion in both the Men's Team competition and Mixed Doubles, winning those titles at the 2022 Championships in San Luis Potosí, Mexico. That was his 4th IRF World Championship, as he won the 2018 Men's Singles in Costa Rica and the 2021 Men's Doubles with Javier Mar in Guatemala City, so Montoya is the first player to win singles, doubles and mixed doubles at Worlds. He is also the current Pan American Games champion in both Men's Singles and Doubles with Mar, winning those events at the 2019 Pan Am Games in Lima. Montoya is also the current Pan American Champion in Men's Singles and the Men's Team event, winning those titles at the 2024 Pan American Racquetball Championships in Guatemala City.
Andree Parrilla is a Mexican racquetball player. He has won 3 major singles titles and 6 doubles titles on the International Racquetball Tour, and represented Mexico at international competitions.
Angélica Barrios is a Bolivian racquetball player. Barrios is the current Pan American Champion in Mixed Doubles, winning the title at the 2023 Pan American Racquetball Championships in Guatemala City, Guatemala, and a former Pan Am Champion in Women's Singles. She is also the first Bolivian to win a medal at the World Games, as she won bronze at the 2022 World Games in Birmingham, Alabama.
Montserrat Mejía is a Mexican racquetball player. She finished #1 on the Ladies Professional Racquetball Tour in 2022–23, becoming the second Mexican to do so after Paola Longoria. Mejía is the current Pan American Champion in both Women's Singles and Doubles.
Andrés Acuña is a Costa Rican racquetball player. He is the current World Games champion in racquetball, winning gold at the 2022 World Games, in Birmingham, Alabama. Acuña is also the current Pan American Champion in Men's Doubles, winning the title in Guatemala City in 2024. He was runner up at the 2021 International Racquetball Federation (IRF) 2021 World Championships in Men's Singles in Guatemala.
Alexandra Herrera is a Mexican racquetball player. She is the current Pan American Champion in Women's Doubles. A left-handed player, Herrera has been the #2 player on the Ladies Professional Racquetball Tour in 2020-21 and again in 2021–22, two of her eight seasons in the LPRT top 10.
Jake Bredenbeck is an American racquetball player. Bredenbeck is a four time USA Racquetball (USAR) National Champion: three times in Men's Singles and once in Men's Doubles. He's also won the International Racquetball Tour, and represented the USA internationally.
Erika Manilla is an American racquetball player. Manilla is the current Pan American Games Champion in Mixed Doubles, winning gold with her brother Adam at the 2023 Pan American Games in Santiago, Chile. She also won doubles at the 2022 US Open Racquetball Championships with Natalia Mendez, and has won six USA Racquetball (USAR) National titles.
