The National Institute of Engineering (NIE) is a private engineering college located in Mysuru, Karnataka, India. It was established in 1946 and affiliated to Visvesvaraya Technological University.
NIE was started in 1946 with diploma programs in Civil Engineering in a room under a thatched roof in Lakshmipuram under leadership of kushagra. [1] The first batch consisted of 86 students. Later, the classes were held in a shed in the nearby Sharada Vilas High School campus, in Mysore. S. Ramaswamy, D. V. Narasimha Rao and T. Ramarao ("Tunnel" Ramarao), the founders, established NIE by 1950 with its own class rooms and workshops on a 6-acre (24,000 m2) campus. NIE started AMIE courses in Civil Engineering for intermediate-passed students in 1948. The students were permitted to change over to the regular degree course leading to B.E. degree in Civil Engineering of the University of Mysore. Thus, NIE became the second engineering college in the state of Karnataka and the first in Mysore. The first batch of students in Civil Engineering graduated in 1953.
A Golden Jubilee Complex was completed in 1996 on a 6-acre (24,000 m2) plot opposite the main building in part of the golden jubilee celebrations. In 2004, the college received World Bank aid under the TEQIP project. [2] The funds obtained were used to strengthen the Centres of Excellence in the college and to set up new ones.
In 2007, NIE attained autonomy under Visvesvaraya Technological University. [3] In 2011, NIE received further World Bank aid under the TEQIP-II. These funds were used to augment the postgraduate programs.
In March 2019, [4] the government of Karnataka approved a private university status for NIE society through notification of The NIE University Act 2019, [5] and it was set to start NIE University with D.A. Prasanna was designated the founder chancellor. [4] However, the plan was cancelled due to financial constraints and NIE continues to be an autonomous institute under Visvesvaraya Technological University.
The institute is presently located on Mananthavady Road and Koorgalli (adjacent to BEML), Mysore Spread across 25 acres. The NIE Administrative Block houses the administrative offices, libraries, a gymnasium, department offices, laboratories, bank, several workshops. The Golden Jubilee Block, operational since 2000, houses the Golden Jubilee Lecture Theatre Complex, a canteen and a playground area. The Diamond Jubilee Sports Complex was set up in 2009. It contains a large, 1200-capacity arena which houses courts for badminton, table tennis and other indoor sports including basketball.

B.M.S. College of Engineering or Bhusanayana Mukundadas Sreenivasaiah College of Engineering (BMSCE) is a private engineering college in Basavanagudi, Bangalore, India. It was started in 1946 by Bhusanayana Mukundadas Sreenivasaiah and is run by the B.M.S. Educational Trust. It is affiliated with Visvesvaraya Technological University and became autonomous in 2008. BMSCE is located on Bull Temple Road, Basavanagudi, diagonally opposite to the famous Bull Temple. Though a private college, it is partially funded by the Government of Karnataka.
University of Visvesvaraya College of Engineering (UVCE) was established in 1917, under the name Government Engineering College, by Bharat Ratna Sir M. Visvesvaraya. It is the 5th engineering college to be established in the country and 1st in Karnataka. UVCE is one of the few technical institutions in the country that is vested with the status of a university and autonomy on the lines of IITs. It is one of the oldest technical institutions in the country, imparting technical education leading to B.Tech., B. Arch., M.Tech., M. Arch. and PhD degrees in the various disciplines of Engineering and Architecture. The college is approved by the AICTE and the Government of Karnataka. UVCE has secured an NAAC accreditation score of 3.75. UVCE, while a constituent college of Bangalore University until 2022, secured an NIRF ranking of 64. The college used to receive financial aid under the TEQIP program from the World Bank.
The University of Mysore is a public state university in Mysore, Karnataka, India. The university was founded during the reign of Maharaja Krishnaraja Wadiyar IV and the premiership of Sir M. Visvesvaraya. The university is recognised by the University Grants Commission for offering higher studies degree courses on-campus as well as online. It was inaugurated on 27 July 1916. Its first chancellor was the maharaja himself; the first Vice-Chancellor was H. V. Nanjundaiah. This was the first university outside of British administered Indian provinces, the sixth in the Indian subcontinent as a whole, and the first in Karnataka. It is a state university of the affiliating type, and was deemed autonomous within the Republic of India on 3 March 1956, when it gained recognition from the University Grants Commission.
N.M.A.M. Institute of Technology (NMAMIT), full name Nitte Mahalinga Adyanthaya Memorial Institute of Technology, is a deemed engineering college in Nitte, Karnataka, India. Central College Bengaluru (1858) is one of the oldest colleges in India. This college was originally affiliated to University of Mysore in Mysore State. Rev. John Garrett was the founder and first principal of the Central High School, which was afterwards renamed Central College. In 1964, with the reorganization of the Indian state and the formation of Karnataka, Central College was transferred to Bangalore University, a new university formed in 1965 to meet the needs of the people of Bengaluru.
