Gauhati University also known as GU, is a collegiate public state university located in Guwahati, Assam, India. It was established on 26 January 1948 under the provisions of an Act enacted by the Assam Legislative Assembly and is the oldest university in Northeast India. The College of Pharmacy was founded in 1923 and is located on the university's Gainesville, Florida main campus. In August 2023 Union Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandavya laid the foundation stone for the new campus of the institute at Panihati in North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal. He announced ₹78 Cr. for the construction of a permanent campus and ₹100 Cr. to build the centre of excellence. The institute will set up a centre of excellence in flow reactors and continuous production at a cost of ₹100 Crore from the Department of Pharmaceuticals.

Khem Singh Grewal (1894-1965) was an Indian pharmacologist. He worked at the King Edward Medical College in Lahore, and the Assam Medical College in Dibrugarh. He had varied research interests, including the study of medicinal plants. He participated in a large study of cancer incidence in India. He was key in founding pharmaceutic education at the University of Punjab in Lahore.
National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPERs) are a group of national level institutes of pharmaceutical sciences or Pharmacy school in India. The Government of India has declared the NIPERs as Institutes of National Importance. They operate as autonomous bodies under the aegis of Department of Pharmaceuticals, Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers.
Harkishan Singh was Professor Emeritus at the Panjab University. He was a well recognized pharmaceutical academic, medicinal chemistry researcher and science historian. He had more than half a century experience in his respective fields to his credit. He worked at the Banaras Hindu University, University of Saugar, and the Panjab University in India, and abroad at the University of Maryland, University of Mississippi and the University of London.
