The original NTM contested two seats in the 1995 general elections using the Banyan tree as its symbol. The party was unsuccessful and has been inactive since then.
The new NTM was launched by retired Industrial Court Judge Lloyd Elcock on 1 February 2006. At the party's launch Elcock listed a four-point plan designed the reduce the nation's rapidly growing crime rate. Its symbol is the simply letters 'NTM'
Soon after the new NTM's launch Mr Rahman claimed that he had "copyrighted" the name National Transformation Movement and so the new party could not claim that name. The Elections and Boundaries Commission (EBC) responded that they only registered party symbols, and as the two parties have very different symbols there would be no confusion on a ballot slip. (Party symbols, not names, appear on ballots next to the candidates. Some parties have gotten around this by placing their names or initials in their party symbol.) Mr Elcock also responded that he would purchase the rights to the name, if Mr Rahman was willing to sell.

The Bangladesh Nationalist Party is one of the major political parties of Bangladesh. It was founded on 1 September 1978 by former Bangladesh President Ziaur Rahman after the Presidential election of 1978, with a view to uniting the people with nationalist ideology of the country. Since then, the BNP won the second, fifth, sixth and eighth national elections and two Presidential elections in 1978 and 1981. The United National Congress (UNC) is one of the two major political parties in Trinidad and Tobago and one of the main parties in the current opposition. On the political spectrum the UNC is a center-left party. It was founded by Basdeo Panday, a lawyer, economist, and former trade unionist and actor. The UNC was formed as the result of a split in the ruling National Alliance for Reconstruction in 1988. After spending six years in opposition, the UNC won control of the government in 1995. In the 2000 general elections, the UNC won an absolute majority in the Parliament. In 2001, a split in the party caused the UNC to lose its parliamentary majority and control of the government. Between 1991 and 1995, and again from 2001 to 2010, the UNC was the Parliamentary Opposition party. In May 2010, the UNC returned to government as the majority party in the People's Partnership. With this victory, the UNC's political leader, Kamla Persad-Bissessar was sworn in as Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago, the first woman to hold this position. Historically, the UNC has been supported by a majority of Indo-Trinidadian and Tobagonians, and the different minorities of the country. The UNC is also colloquially called the Indian Party or the Hindu Party. The party symbol is the rising sun above the Trinity Hills.
Since its establishment in 1947, Pakistan has had an asymmetric federal government and is a federal parliamentary democratic republic. At the national level, the people of Pakistan elect a bicameral legislature, the Parliament of Pakistan. The parliament consists of a lower house called the National Assembly, which is elected directly, and an upper house called the Senate, whose members are chosen by elected provincial legislators. The head of government, the Prime Minister, is elected by the majority members of the National Assembly and the head of state, the President, is elected by the Electoral College, which consists of both houses of Parliament together with the four provincial assemblies. In addition to the national parliament and the provincial assemblies, Pakistan also has more than five thousand elected local governments.
The Democratic Labour Party (DLP) was the main opposition party in Trinidad and Tobago between 1957 and 1971. The party was the party which opposed the People's National Movement (PNM) at the time of Independence. After several splits brought about by leadership struggles, the party lost its hold on the Indo-Trinidadian community in the 1976 General Elections and was displaced in parliament by the United Labour Front under the leadership of Basdeo Panday. The party was the representative of the ethnic Indian community in the country; however Indian Muslims were said to be less loyal to the party than Indian Hindus.

The party is meant to serve as a "third force" is society, providing a "non-tribal" alternative to the ruling United National Congress and the Opposition People's National Movement. Tarique Rahman Bangladeshi politician who is the current acting chairman of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) since February 2018. He has been residing in London with his family since he left Bangladesh in September 2008. In absentia, Rahman was sentenced to life imprisonment for conviction in the 2004 Dhaka grenade attack case in October 2018, another 10 years for the Zia Charitable Trust corruption case in February 2018 and 7 more years in a money laundering case in July 2016. Interpol had put on Red Notice against Rahman from April 2015 until January 2016.

The 2008 United States Senate election in Minnesota took place on November 4, 2008. After a legal battle lasting over eight months, the Democratic–Farmer–Labor Party (DFL) candidate, Al Franken, defeated Republican incumbent Norm Coleman in one of the closest elections in the history of the Senate, with Coleman's Senate predecessor Dean Barkley taking third place. Inshan Ishmael came into the public eye with his launching of an Islamic television station in Trinidad and Tobago, the Islamic Broadcast Network, where he hosted a popular talk show, “Breaking Barriers” and for his historic court action against the state for using the Trinity Cross as the nation’s highest award. In January 2007 he again received national attention when he was arrested under the Anti-Terrorism Act (2005) but charged the next day for printing flyers without his name and address on them.

Erlam & Ors v Rahman & Anor [2015] EWHC 1215 (QB), is an English election court case challenging the 2014 election of Lutfur Rahman as the Mayor of the London Borough of Tower Hamlets. On 23 April 2015, Election Commissioner Richard Mawrey voided Rahman's election under the Representation of the People Act 1983 on the grounds of corrupt and illegal practices by him and his agents, and general corruption so extensively prevailing so to reasonably supposed to have affected the election. Rahman's official election agent Alibor Choudhury was ordered to vacate his own office of councillor in the ward of Stepney Green for being guilty of corrupt and illegal practices.
The fifth Sarawak state election was held between Wednesday, 15 April and Thursday, 16 April 1987 with a nomination date set on Monday, 6 April 1987. This was a snap election following the Ming Court affair. The state assembly was dissolved on 12 March 1987 by Sarawak governor with the advice of chief minister of Sarawak, Abdul Taib Mahmud.
