Neil Slorance (born February 17, 1987) is a Scottish comic artist who is best known as the artist of Dungeon Fun as well as for his political cartoons. He has contributed strips to Titan Comics' Doctor Who comics alongside Dungeon Fun writer Colin Bell.

Comics

Slorance created the sitcom webcomic Jonbot vs Martha with Colin Bell in 2011. [1] Slorance and Bell collaborated again on the critically acclaimed Dungeon Fun between 2013 and 2015. [2] [3]

Slorance provided illustrations for a short story, How To Be A Ghost: An Illustrated Guide, with writer Campbell Miller in 2011. Another collaboration, How To Be Suave, was released in 2013. [4]

In 2012, Slorance began writing a series of travelogues, starting with Nine Lines of Metro. A second travelogue, Seven Days in Berlin, was released later in 2012. A third travelogue, Let's go to Bordeaux was released in 2014. [5]

Slorance published The Amateur Astronomer's Journal in 2013, a short story about "a home computer worker taking the night off to go look at the stars". [6]

In 2014, Slorance and Bell began contributing strips to Titan Comics' Doctor Who: The Twelfth Doctor series. [7]

In 2016, Slorance released a collection of autobiographical comics entitled Modern Slorance: Torts and Tinder. [8]

Political cartoonist

Slorance first began drawing political cartoons during the 2014 Scottish independence referendum. [9] His political cartoons subsequently attracted media attention during the 2015 general election after receiving recognition from Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon, [10] following which he live sketched STV's election night coverage. [11] He was then hired by STV to draw the Neil Slorance Sketch, a regular feature. In 2017, he left STV and later moved to The National to draw "The Slorance Sketch".

On January 22, 2016, one of his cartoons signed by Nicola Sturgeon was auctioned at the Govan Kingston SNP's Burns supper event to support her re-election. [12]

Personal life

Slorance lives in Glasgow with his pet tortoise, Herman. In 2015, a video of him awakening his tortoise went viral, [13] accumulating more than a million views and being featured on the American TV show Right This Minute. Neil Slorance is the younger brother of the highly regarded digital marketing expert Mark Slorance.

Awards and nominations

In 2012, Jonbot vs Martha was nominated for four Scottish Independent Comic Book Alliance awards. [14]

In 2013, Amateur Astronomer's Journal was nominated for three SICBA awards. [15]

In 2014, Slorance won the Best Cover and Best Artist awards at the SICBA, and Dungeon Fun Book One received the award for Best Comic or Graphic Novel. [16]

In 2015, Slorance was ranked 99th in The List's Hot 100. [17]

In 2016, Slorance was ranked 90th in The List's Hot 100, climbing 9 places from the previous year. [18]

Rick and Morty is an American comic book series written by Zac Gorman and Kyle Starks and illustrated by Marc Ellerby, based on the television series of the same name. Oni Press published the original series across 60 issues from April 1, 2015 until March 25, 2020. Using the television series' established premise of alternate timelines, the first two volumes expressly follow the Rick and Morty of a different dimension (C-132) on the "Central Finite Curve" than the protagonists of the television series so-as not to contradict its continuity, before the series switches focus over to the same Rick (C-137) and Morty of the television series following the "Head-Space" arc (#12–14) in the third volume, featuring sequel storylines to specific episodes of the series, with elements of the comic series and references to its events later being incorporated into the television series. Backup stories of the series alternate between focusing on Rick (C-137) and his Morty and various Ricks and Mortys from alternate dimensions, before the primary storyline switches focus over to yet another Rick and Morty at an unspecified point before/during the final volume of the series. Several spin-off limited series based on the television series and video game Pocket Mortys have also been published, with Rick and Morty Presents, an anthology series following the franchise's supporting characters in main roles, beginning publication in 2018.

<i>Adventures of God</i> Comedy webtoon by Matteo Ferrazzi and Corey Jay

Adventures of God is a comedy webtoon created and respectively written and illustrated by Italian Matteo "Teo" Ferrazzi and American Corey Jay. The comic explores the relationship between God and his sons Jesus and Lucy and the angel Gabe and demon Ebag after confirming the existence of the afterlife to humankind. It began publishing weekly on WEBTOON in November 2016. As of August 2019 it had 100 million views, and as of April 2021 WEBTOON reported that it had 1.4 million subscribers. The comic has been nominated for a Ringo Award in the Humor Comic category, ranking second behind I Hate Fairyland. Adventures of God is published in print by Rocketship Entertainment and was Kickstarted in October 2019.

Fizban's Treasury of Dragons is sourcebook that focuses on dragons in the 5th edition of the Dungeons & Dragons fantasy role-playing game and was published October 26, 2021. The book adds a variety of draconic themed options for both players and Dungeon Masters.
