The Nepalese Children's Education Fund (NCEF) is a non-profit organization that has been working to develop the potential of disadvantaged Nepalese children through education.

Since its establishment in 2002, NCEF has targeted students from economically disadvantaged families, who would otherwise be unable to send their children to school. NCEF also extends its support to ethnically marginalized groups, orphans and girls with its belief in the power of education. With the help of volunteers in both Nepal and around the world, NCEF has been expanding its work in both rural and urban regions of Nepal.

Operation in Nepal

NCEF operates in the following regions in Nepal:

  1. Kathmandu, the capital city of Nepal. NCEF started its operation in Kathamandu in 2002.
  2. Kavre. The Kavrepalanchowk district is located 1.5 hour drive away from Kathmandu, the capital city of Nepal. Despite its proximity to the capital, Kavre remains isolated from the mainstream of development, especially education. NCEF started its operation in Kavre in 2002.
  3. Nepalgunj, the headquarters of Banke District, Nepalgunj is located approximately 520 km from Kathmandu. Banke District is the main central point of the Mid-Western Region. Nepalgunj airport is a key air service facilities center for most of the inaccessible districts of Mid and Far -Western region. It is the main business spot of Western Nepal. Nepalgunj is seeing increasing urbanization and population, which have consequences in the various areas like health and education, especially to girls. NCEF started its operation in Nepalgunj in 2002.
  4. Palpa, located 110 km from Pokhara, a major tourist-attraction city of Nepal. NCEF started its operation in Palpa in 2006.
  5. Patan, one of the three cities located within the Kathmandu valley. NCEF started its operation in Patan in 2005.

Student selection

Volunteers in Nepal, especially area coordinators, identify potential candidates for the scholarship, assist in filling out application forms by visiting candidates or through coordination with school teachers. Then they send the scanned applications to the US Selection Committee, which comprises volunteers both from NCEF and outside. Once the Selection Committee makes a decision, area coordinators relay that decision to candidates, and then continue the process of enrolling selected students into schools and providing them with education material.

Nepalgunj, also spelled Nepalganj, is a Sub-Metropolitan City in Banke District, Nepal. It lies on the Terai plains near the southern border with Bahraich district in Uttar Pradesh, India. Nepalgunj is 153 kilometers south-west of Ghorahi and 16 km south of Kohalpur. Former Village Development Committee: Udayapur, Bhawaniyapur, Piprahawa, Jaispur, Paraspur, Indrapur, Khaskarkado, Bashudevpur, Manikapur and Puraina were added to territory in order to make it Sub metropolitan city on 2071 Paush 28 and later Puraini was also added in list on 2072 Paush 21. Further, while restructuring of local levels nationwide, ward no. 23 was taken out to Janaki Rural Municipality and ward no. 7 of Hirminiya VDC was added to Nepalgunj.

Butwal Place in Nepal

Butwal, officially Butwal Sub-Metropolitan City, is one of the twin cities of rapidly growing Butwal-Bhairahawa urban agglomeration in Nepal. The city lies in Rupandehi District on Lumbini Province and also served as the interim capital of the province for nearly 3 years, until 2020 when Deukhuri was formally voted as the capital. It was given the title "Green City of Nepal 2019". It was also home to the administrative headquarters of Lumbini Zone. Kohalpur is a municipality in Banke District of Lumbini province of Nepal. The municipality was established on 18 May 2014 merging the existing two Village Development Committees i.e. Rajhena and Kohalpur. The town is in East-West highway and one of the fastest developing places in Nepal. A neighboring city Nepalgunj is on South (16 km), with Ghorahi city (135 km) to west in Dang District and further 6 km is the Indian border. In fact it is a growing city in the western region of Nepal. It has a junction to diverse the roadway transport to east, west, north and south from the city.

Himalayan Bank Limited (HBL) is one of the largest private banks of Nepal. The Bank was incorporated in 1992 by a few eminent individuals of Nepal in partnership with the Employees Provident Fund and Habib Bank Limited of Pakistan. The bank commenced its operations in January 1993. Himalayan Bank is also the first commercial bank of Nepal with most of its shares held by the private sector of Nepal. Ghorahi Sub-Metropolitan City in Lumbini Province, Nepal

Ghorahi is the seventh largest city and largest sub-metropolitan city of Nepal. The city lies in Lumbini Province in the mid-Western part of Nepal. It is the largest city of Dang Deukhuri District of southwest Nepal. Child Workers in Nepal (CWIN) is a non-governmental organization (NGO) working as an advocate for children's rights. CWIN supports street children, children subjected to child labour, children who are sexually exploited, and also those victimized by violence. The organization's objective is to protect the rights of children in Nepal. It was established in 1987 by a group of students at Tribhuvan University who, upon investigating the conditions of children living on the streets in Kathmandu, Nepal, recognized the need for advocacy in this area. As a "watchdog" in the field of child rights in Nepal, CWIN acts as a voice for the disadvantaged and exploited children. It does this by lobbying, campaigning, and pressuring the government to protect and promote children's rights, and to end exploitation, abuse and discrimination against children.

Koteshwor neighbourhood in Kathmandu, Province No. 3, Nepal

Koteshwor is a place, located in Kathmandu District. In 1991, Kathmandu Metropolitan City was expanded by incorporating Koteshwor as Ward No. 32. It encompasses 395 hectares and is bounded by the Manohara river in the east and south, the Bagmati river in the west, and share borders with Gothatar in the north, Madhyapur Thimi municipality of Bhaktapur District in east and Lalitpur metropolitan city in the south. With respect to basic services, almost all homes in the ward have access to electricity, but the same cannot be said about drinking water. At the time of the 1991 Nepal census it had a population of 5787 and had 1154 households in it. The ward contains 8,716 households. The population in 2001 was 35,184.

Panchkhal Municipality in Bagmati Pradesh, Nepal

Panchkhal is a Municipality in Kavrepalanchok District in the Bagmati Zone of central Nepal. The Panchkhal Valley, intermontane basin developed in the southeast of the Kathmandu Valley is located within the eastern flank of a synclinorium in Kavre District. The Jhiku Khola, a tributary of the Sun Koshi River is characterised by development of geomorphic surfaces at different elevations formed after the last glacial retreat in the area. Kathmandu University School of Medical Sciences (KUSMS) is one of the seven schools of Kathmandu University running medical, nursing and allied health science program. KUSMS is a collaborative program of Kathmandu University and Dhulikhel Hospital. The main office of KUSMS is on the premises of Dhulikhel Hospital, a Kathmandu University hospital, in Kavrepalanchok District, Nepal. KUSMS was set up in 1994. Smart or STPL is the private mobile network service provider of Nepal. The company was established on 1 July 2008. It has been extending its network with an aim of having coverage of the entire of Nepal. On 28 October 2017 the company launched its 4G services in Kathmandu, Lalitpur, Bhaktapur and Pokhara, and is planning to launch 4G in other parts of Nepal soon.
