New Uzbekistan University (Uzbek: Yangi O'zbekiston universiteti) is an Uzbek state university in Uzbekistan's capital Tashkent. It was founded in 2021 by presidential decree as the first public autonomous university with the aim of taking a leading position in research and teaching. [1] It is part of the presidential education system of Uzbekistan. [2]

History

The university was established by a decree of Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev. Shortly after the opening in summer 2021, the first high school graduates started an orientation year in order to bring all students to a uniform level of performance. Since all courses are taught in English, the curriculum also includes English language courses organized by Cambridge Assessment International Education. [3] Adapted to the country's need for graduates in the engineering field, the first three bachelor's degree programs in mechanical engineering, chemical engineering and software engineering started in 2022.

Wolfgang A. Herrmann, former President (from 1995 to 2019) of Technical University of Munich (TUM), is the Honorary President of New Uzbekistan University since July 2021. [4]

The development of the university is supported by TUM International, [5] a 100% subsidiary of the Technical University of Munich, [6] and the Jameel World Education Lab (J-WEL) [7] of Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). [8]

In 2023 and 2024, New Uzbekistan University has established partnerships and cooperations with Nazarbayev University [9] from Kazakhstan and different German universities in Saxony and Bavaria. [10] [11] [12] [13]

New Uzbekistan University and Hochschule Mittweida university of applied sciences offer a double-degree in industrial management (M. Sc.). [14]

Recent developments

In April 2024, the president of Uzbekistan initiated the construction of first facilities in New Tashkent, including the campus of New Uzbekistan University. [15]

Temurbek Military Schools are militarized boarding schools in the Republic of Uzbekistan for boys of 14–18. They were founded by decree of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev on 28 June 2019, in a resolution "On additional measures to improve the system of military-patriotic education of young men and training of a personnel reserve for the Armed Forces of the Republic of Uzbekistan and public service". Education in these schools focused on military related subjects. The school system consists of military senior high schools within the Ministry of Defense, Ministry of Internal Affairs and Ministry Emergency Situations, as well as the State Security Service and the National Guard.

Shavkat Abdullayevich Ayupov is a Soviet Uzbek scientist in the field of mathematics. He is an Academician of the Uzbekistan Academy of Sciences (1995). He is also a Senator in the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan (2020). He was awarded the title of Hero of Uzbekistan in 2021, and he holds the title of Distinguished Scientist of the Republic of Uzbekistan (2011).

Sherzodkhon Kudratkhuja - is a rector of University of Journalism and Mass Communications, Board Chairman of the National Association of Electronic Mass Media of Uzbekistan and mass communications of Uzbekistan. He is also Chairman of the International Press Club organization.
