The News Post Leader is a British paid-for weekly that covers the north-east county of Northumberland, including the towns of Cramlington, Ashington, Bedlington and Blyth. [2] [3]
The paper was formed from the amalgamation of several south-east Northumberland titles during the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s the oldest of which was the Blyth News founded in 1874. The paper was taken over by Johnston Press in 1999. [4] The News Post Leader title was arrived at from the amalgamation of the paid-for News Post with the freesheet Leader in August 1982. The resulting paper was a freesheet until 30 April 2021, when it became a paid-for title. In December 2021 its website was amalgamated with that of its sister title the Northumberland Gazette.
The paper tends to have a focus on community news and events, mixed with its heavy advertising of local companies that is evident throughout. It also tends to cover local politics and the affairs of Northumberland County Council, as well as local sports such as local football team Blyth Spartans. [5] [6]

It was later acquired by Johnston Press in 2016 after The Independent shifted to a digital-only model. The i came under the control of JPIMedia a day after Johnston Press filed for administration on 16 November 2018. The paper and its website were bought by the Daily Mail and General Trust (DMGT) on 29 November 2019, for £49.6 million. On 6 December 2019 the Competition and Markets Authority served an initial enforcement order on DMGT and DMG Media Limited requiring the paper to be run separately pending investigation.
The Northants Herald & Post was a local weekly newspaper distributed free of charge in Northampton, England, and the surrounding towns and villages. The distribution also included the town of Towcester following the closure of local paid-for newspapers. It was closed by owners Trinity Mirror in December 2016.
National World plc is a British multimedia company. The company was founded and listed on the London Stock Exchange as National World plc in September 2019. In January 2021 it became operational with the acquisition of JPIMedia for £10.2 million. In April 2022, JPIMedia was rebranded to National World. Since purchasing JPIMedia, National World has launched sixteen new titles aand made a further seven acquisitions, notably Insider Media.
The Northumberland Line is a planned railway project aimed at reintroducing passenger rail services to freight-only lines in South East Northumberland, North East England. Under the scheme, a new passenger service would link some of Northumberland's major population centres in Ashington and Blyth to the nearby city of Newcastle upon Tyne. Construction of new stations and works to upgrade the existing rail infrastructure to bring it up to passenger-carrying standards is reported as having begun by late August 2022, ahead of the anticipated launch of the new passenger service in December 2023.
