Nicolas Armada Deocampo (born 1959), best known as Nick Deocampo, is a Filipino filmmaker, film historian, film literacy advocate, [1] film producer, [2] author and the director of the Center for New Cinema.
Deocampo completed his basic education at West Visayas State University and finished salutatorian at Iloilo High School in 1976.[ citation needed ] He graduated cum laude with a bachelor's degree in Theater Arts at the University of the Philippines (UP) in 1981. [1]
Under a Fulbright Scholarship Grant, Deocampo earned his Master of Arts degree in Cinema Studies at New York University in 1989. [1] [3] He was also a French government scholar and received his Certificate in Film at the Atelier du Formacion Au Cinema in 1989. [1] He received another Fulbright grant as an international senior research fellow at the U.S. Library of Congress in Washington, D.C. in 2001. [1]

He was named one of the Ten Outstanding Young Men of the Philippines in 1992. [1] A year later, he was recognized in Japan as one of the Ten Outstanding Young Persons of the World. [1] His contributions were honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Filipino Academy of Movie Arts and Sciences Awards (FAMAS), [4] and a Lamberto Avellana Award from the Film Academy of the Philippines. [1] Deocampo also made it to the Who's Who of the 21st Century by the International Biographical Society in England.[ citation needed ]
In 1999, Deocampo organised the Pink Film Festival, Philippines' first international gay and lesbian festival. [2]
As of 2023 [update] , Deocampo works at the University of the Philippines Film Institute as an Associate Professor. [3] [4]
He is currently working on a five-volume history of Philippine cinema.[ when? ] Its first installment is Cine: Spanish Influences on Early Cinema in the Philippines (Manila: National Commission for Culture and the Arts, 2003) which won him his second National Book Award. The second volume will focus on Philippine cinema during the American period.

Cecilia Manguerra Brainard is an author and editor of 20 books. She co-founded PAWWA or Philippine American Women Writers and Artists; and also founded Philippine American Literary House. Brainard's works include the World War II novel, When the Rainbow Goddess Wept, The Newspaper Widow, Magdalena, and Woman With Horns and Other Stories. She edited several anthologies including Fiction by Filipinos in America, Contemporary Fiction by Filipinos in America, and two volumes of Growing Up Filipino I and II, books used by educators.

Marilou Correa Diaz-Abaya was a Filipina multi-award winning film director. She was conferred the Order of National Artists of the Philippines for Film and Broadcast Arts in 2022, she was the founder and president of the Marilou Diaz-Abaya Film Institute and Arts Center, a film school based in Antipolo, Philippines. She was the director of the 1998 film José Rizal, a biographical film on the Philippines' national hero of the same name. She was part of the Second Golden Age of Philippine Cinema.
Edgar Calabia Samar is a poet and novelist from San Pablo City, Philippines. He has received the Philippine National Book Awards for his novels and book of criticism, and the Palanca Awards for his poetry collections and short fiction. His novels Sa Kasunod ng 909, Si Janus Silang at ang Tiyanak ng Tabon and Si Janus Silang at ang Labanang Manananggal-Mambabarang all won the Philippine National Book Awards for Best Novel in a Philippine Language in 2012, 2015, and 2016, respectively. He has been awarded the PBBY-Salanga Writer's Prize, the NCCA Writer's Prize for the Novel, the Gantimpalang Collantes sa Sanaysay and the Gawad Surian sa Tula.

Sakay is a 1993 Filipino historical drama film directed by Raymond Red. The film stars Julio Diaz, Tetchie Agbayani, and Leopoldo Salcedo. It was produced by Alpha Omega Productions. The film portrays the latter part of the life of Filipino patriot and hero Macario Sakay, who was declared an outlaw and a criminal for continuing hostilities against the United States after the "official" end of the Philippine–American War. It was also the last movie appearance of Leopoldo Salcedo before his sudden death in 1998.

A self-described B-movie, it stars Sarsi Emmanuel, Chayong, a barrio lass of Chinese ancestry; Miguel Rodriguez as Alfonsito, a Filipino-Spanish ilustrado; and Abel Jurado as Alipio, the lover of Sarsi's character. Michael Benedict P. Rodriguez was a Filipino actor and model. He got his start in show business when he was discovered by the filmmaker, a National Artist for Film, Lino Brocka, who cast him in a Close Up commercial in 1981. Mowelfund, or the Movie Workers Welfare Foundation, is an organization in the Philippines that provides for the welfare of workers in the film industry. As well as helping film workers in times of need, it provides support to various organizations including the Mowelfund Film Institute.

Moral is a 1982 Filipino coming-of-age drama film directed by Marilou Diaz-Abaya and written by Ricky Lee. It is the second in a loose trilogy of feminist films by Diaz-Abaya and Lee which discusses women's issues, along with Brutal (1980) and Karnal (1983). Set in contemporary times in the Philippines, the film stars Lorna Tolentino, Gina Alajar, Sandy Andolong and Anna Marin as a group of friends and follows the course of their lives over the course of several years after they graduate from college. A "loosely structured, observational drama", the film discusses several topics that Diaz-Abaya and Lee saw as taboo at the time, such as abortion, rape, and gender inequality in the context of the changing morals of the time. This is Seven Star Productions' last feature film.

It is attached to the UP College of Mass Communication and engages in theater and extension services, academics, and research related to cinema. The UPFI offers degree programs in the bachelor's and master's level.
