Nicoleta Matei (born 1 February 1970), known by her stage name Nico, is a Romanian singer and TV personality. She collaborated with several Romanian hip hop artists, such as Morometzii (in 1999), B.U.G. Mafia (in 2000, 2002), Cabron (in 2003, 2007, 2010), Puya, Blat Jargon, and Codu Penal. She represented Romania along with Vlad in the Eurovision Song Contest 2008 with the song "Pe-o margine de lume". [1]

In 2017 she was chosen by Walt Disney Pictures to provide the Romanian voice of Mrs. Potts in the live-action movie Beauty and The Beast . [2]

Its highest placing in the contest had been third place, which the nation achieved in 2005. In 2007, Romania finished in 13th place.

It was written by Andreea Andrei and Adina Șuteu, while production was solely handled by Andrei Tudor. An operatic ballad performed in Romanian and Italian, it was likened to the works of Italian singer Andrea Bocelli by music critics. "Pe-o margine de lume" was originally recorded as a solo by Miriță.

On 22 May 2023, a general strike was called in Romania's education system, involving 150,000 teachers and another 60,000–70,000 teaching and auxiliary staff, demanding a rise in salaries in education by 25%. During the strike, there have been multiple attempts by syndicates and teachers to negotiate with the Romanian government, as well as with President Klaus Iohannis. Simultaneous demonstrations took place in Bucharest and several other major cities nationwide.
