Nico van der Meel

Nico van der Meel is a Dutch tenor. He made his debut with the Concertgebouw Orchestra during the 1987/1988 season and made a recording of Bach's St John Passion , conducted by Sigiswald Kuijken. [1] Between 1989 and 1996, he made several tours and recordings of Bach's Mass in B minor and St Matthew Passion . He has since performed with conductors such as Nikolaus Harnoncourt, John Eliot Gardiner, Gustav Leonhardt, Peter Schreier, Jan Willem de Vriend, Helmuth Rilling, Michel Corboz and Sir Colin Davis. [1] He has also performed in a number of operatic roles, including Alfred in Die Fledermaus by Johann Strauss, Sellem in Igor Stravinsky's The Rake's Progress , Pedrillo in Mozart's Die Entführung aus dem Serail under Christopher Hogwood, among others. [1] He is a member of the group Camerata Trajectina and conducts the William Byrd Vocal Ensemble, which specializes in a cappella music from the 16th to the 20th century.

Netherlands Bach Society Musical artist

The Netherlands Bach Society is the oldest ensemble for Baroque music in the Netherlands, and possibly in the world. The ensemble was founded in 1921 in Naarden to perform Bach's St Matthew Passion on Good Friday and has performed the work annually since then in the Grote of Sint-Vituskerk. From 1983 until 2018, Jos van Veldhoven was artistic director and conductor. Shunsuke Sato became artistic director on 1 June 2018.

He composed the chorale cantata in 1725 in Leipzig for the Sunday Estomihi, the Sunday before Lent. It is based on Paul Eber's 1582 hymn in eight stanzas "Herr Jesu Christ, wahr Mensch und Gott". Bach first performed it on 11 February 1725.

Benedikt Kristjánsson is an Icelandic operatic and concert tenor who is based in Germany and has appeared internationally. He focuses on Baroque music, especially by Johann Sebastian Bach, but has also performed and recorded Romantic lieder and contemporary music. He has performed Bach's St John Passion in an arrangement for one singer, keyboard and percussion, notably in a live broadcast from Bach's resting place at the Thomaskirche on Good Friday 2020.

Johannes Chum is an Austrian operatic tenor who has made an international career, first in concert, then in opera. Initially known for historically informed performance of Baroque oratorios and Mozart operatic roles, he has developed a large repertoire which also includes Wagner's Lohengrin and contemporary opera.
