The Nigerian National Order of Merit Award (NNOM) is an academic award conferred on distinguished academicians and intellectuals who have made outstanding contributions to the academic, growth and development of Nigeria. [1] The award is often conferred on its recipient by the Federal Government of Nigeria following a nomination and approval of the Governing Board of the Nigerian National Merit Award. [2] [3] Its recipient is often decorated by the President of Nigeria. Recipients of the award have the legal right to use the postnominal title: Nigerian National Order of Merit (NNOM). [4] It is the highest academic award in Nigeria and since its institution in 1979, the award has so far been conferred on only 70 distinguished academicians. [5] [6] [7]

Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) is a federal university in Ile-Ife, Osun State, Nigeria. The university was founded in 1961 and classes commenced in October 1962 as the University of Ife by the regional government of Western Nigeria, which was led by Samuel Ladoke Akintola. Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) is a honorific title that is conferred on legal practitioners in Nigeria of not less than ten years' standing and who have distinguished themselves in the legal profession. It is the equivalent of the rank of King's Counsel in the United Kingdom, as well as in South Australia, the Northern Territory, and Canada. Several countries use similar designations such as Senior Counsel, President's Counsel, State Counsel, Senior Advocate, and President's Advocate. A Senior Advocate of Nigeria is said to have been admitted to the "Inner Bar", as distinguished from the "Outer", or "Utter", Bar, consisting of junior advocates.

Olukayode Ariwoola is a Nigerian jurist and justice of the Supreme Court of Nigeria who serves as the chief justice of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. He was formerly a justice of the Nigerian courts of appeal and on 22 November 2011, he was appointed to the bench of the supreme court of Nigeria. He was appointed substantive chief justice of Nigeria on 27 June 2022 following the resignation of incumbent chief justice Tanko Muhammad and formally confirmed chief justice by the Nigerian Senate on 21 September 2022.

Anthony Olusegun Adegbulugbe is a Nigerian professor of Energy Planning and Management, notable for his significant contributions to Nigeria's energy industry. He is the third chancellor of Joseph Ayo Babalola University and will officially resume office by December 8, 2023. Adegbulugbe served as a special adviser on Energy to Former President Olusegun Obasanjo of Nigeria. He was a Member of the National Economic Management Team, and the Chairman of the National Gas to Power initiative between 2005 and 2007. Adegbulugbe was a contributor to the inter-governmental panel on Climate change (IPCC) Assessments reports which won the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize along with former US Vice President Al Gore. He has played a crucial role in shaping energy policies in Nigeria.
