Niklas Schenker (born 1993 in Berlin) is a German political scientist and politician from Die Linke. He has been a member of the Berlin House of Representatives since 2021. [1]
Niklas Schenker was born and grew up in Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf. [2] He completed a bachelor's degree in social sciences at the Humboldt University of Berlin and then completed a master's degree in political science at the Free University of Berlin. [3] He worked as a research assistant for Member of the German Bundestag Caren Lay. [4]
Schenker joined Die Linke in 2013. In the district assembly of the Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf district, he served as parliamentary group leader of his party from October 2016 to October 2021. In the 2021 Berlin state election, he received a mandate via his party's state list. He was able to defend his seat in the House of Representatives in the repeat election in 2023. [5]
In the 2021-2026 legislative period, Schenker is the spokesman for rents, housing, public housing and housing subsidies, cycling and walking, and club culture for the Left Party as well as a member of the urban development, building and housing, mobility, culture and Europe committees and the subcommittee for participation management Investment controlling for construction investments. [6]
Schenker supports the Deutsche Wohnen & Co. enteignen and is committed to its rapid implementation following the successful referendum. [7] In an interview with the magazine Jacobin, he described the Berlin rent movement as the “most important coalition partner” in the red-green-red coalition. [8] He considers squatting to be a legitimate means of civil disobedience and calls for an end to the Berliner Linie policy. [9]
Schenker calls for further development of City West oriented towards the common good and speaks out against the construction of further high-rise buildings. [10]
Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf is the fourth borough of Berlin, formed in an administrative reform with effect from 1 January 2001, by merging the former boroughs of Charlottenburg and Wilmersdorf.

Adenauerplatz is a Berlin U-Bahn Station on the U7 line in the district of Charlottenburg, borough of Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf. It was opened on 28 April 1978 after the north-west extension to Spandau, and is located on the Kurfürstendamm/Lewishamstraße intersection.
Westend is a station in the Charlottenburg district of Berlin. It is located on the Ringbahn circle line, served by the S-Bahn lines S41, S42 and S46. It is named after the Westend locality, which is immediately adjacent to the station grounds. The entire station area was opened—as Charlottenburg-Westend—in several stages from 15 November 1877, but it has since been reduced to an S-Bahn platform and a pair of long-distance tracks. The station was closed temporarily in 1980 because of the S-Bahn strike. A platform on the Ringbahn was reopened in 1993 for S-Bahn traffic. The restoration of all of the station infrastructure is not planned.
Halensee is a locality (Ortsteil) of Berlin in the district (Bezirk) of Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf. Halensee was established as a villa and tenement settlement in about 1880, in the suburb of Wilmersdorf, which became part of Greater Berlin in 1920. In 2004, Halensee became its own Ortsteil. With an area of 1.27 km2 it is the smallest Ortsteil in Berlin after Hansaviertel.
Charlottenburg-Nord is a locality (Ortsteil) in the northern part of the Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf borough of Berlin, Germany. It is chiefly composed of after-war housing estates, allotment gardens and commercial zones. The locality comprises the Großsiedlung Siemensstadt, part of the Berlin Modernism Housing Estates UNESCO World Heritage Site, as well as Plötzensee Prison.

The 2021 Berlin state election, ruled invalid in 2022 and repeated in 2023, was held on 26 September 2021, on the same day as the 2021 German federal election, which also had to be repeated in parts of Berlin due to irregularities. Thus, the 19th Abgeordnetenhaus of Berlin was elected twice.
The 2021 Berlin referendum, formally referred to as Deutsche Wohnen & Co. enteignen or DW enteignen, was a referendum held and passed in Berlin in 2021. Voters were asked if they approved of the expropriation of the property of private real-estate companies with 3,000 or more units in the city, through public purchases by the Berlin state government. This would affect 243,000 rental apartments out of 1.5 million total apartments in Berlin. The largest such real-estate company is Deutsche Wohnen, for which the initiative is named, followed by Vonovia. In total, the referendum would impact 12 large real-estate companies.
