Nile is a ghost town in Milam County, Texas, United States, nine miles west of Rockdale; [1] it is named after Egypt's Nile River. [2] Its population peaked at 35 in 1896, when it had two cotton gins and a general store. The school, which had 43 students in 1903, consolidated with Thorndale in 1946. Today, nothing remains of Nile. [3]

Copano is a ghost town on the northwestern shore of Copano Bay in Refugio County, Texas. It is located 5 mi (8.0 km) north of present-day Bayside, on Copano Point. The port, which holds the distinction as the first in South Texas, was founded in the early 18th century by the Spanish, and named for the Copane Indians who resided in the area. Initially, it was used as a port by smugglers and pirates, until 1785, when it was officially opened for use by the Spanish empire. The port was abandoned in the 1880s, following the settlement of the area after the Texas Revolution. Ruins of the town site can still be found, but are currently in danger of falling into Copano Bay.
Aransas City is a ghost town on the tip of the Live Oak Peninsula in Aransas County, Texas, United States, near present-day Fulton. It served as a port on Aransas Bay at its confluence with Copano Bay during the 1830s and 1840s, but declined following its loss of a Republic of Texas customhouse to the rival port of Lamar.

Bushdale, a former small German community, is now a ghost town in Milam County, Texas, United States, three miles north of Rockdale. The town never grew much during its "primetime", as Bushdale only contained a one-teacher school and a few businesses. The school was consolidated with Rockdale in 1949. Today, only the cemetery remains.

Santa Rita, Texas is a ghost town near Brownsville in Cameron County, Texas, United States. It is believed to have been the first government seat in the county in 1848, and perhaps the earliest town to have been named by English-speaking people from the area. Around the late 18th century, this area was a ranching community, even before the city of Matamoros, Tamaulipas, was established in 1826. When Brownsville was finally elected as the county seat a few months later, most of the residents from Santa Rita moved to the winning townsite. By the late 1930s, nothing remained in Santa Rita. Today, Santa Rita is found near the colonia of Villa Nueva, a historical site in the Rio Grande Valley, northwest of the city of Brownsville.
Audubon is a ghost town in Wise County, Texas. It was named for the naturalist John Audubon. With its first settler, D.D. Shirey, plotting the town in 1865. After becoming an important center of commerce in the area, with a Masonic lodge from 1879 to 1886, it was bypassed by the Fort Worth and Denver Railway in 1883. By 1904, the town ceased to have a post office. A Texas state historical marker was erected at the former site of the town in 1970.
Smithfield is a former town in north-central Tarrant County, Texas. Located 10 miles southwest of the city of Grapevine, it was originally named Zion after the Methodist Church. A Masonic lodge and businesses existed in the city by 1876. After the donation of land for a church and cemetery, the city was renamed after donor Eli Smith who moved to the area from Missouri in 1859. Fires in 1890 and 1929 destroyed many areas of commerce in the city. However, its population remained steady through the 1930s. The city was annexed by North Richland Hills in 1958; however, Smithfield Middle School, Smithfield Elementary School and Smithfield Cemetery still carry on the name of the former town.

The community was founded in the northeastern corner of the county, near the intersection of Farm to Market Road 2104 and Farm to Market Road 2239, six miles south of Paige, 14 miles east of Bastrop, and 50 miles east of Austin.

It was on an old stage mail route from Bastrop to Austin. Today, the town site would correspond roughly with the intersection of Farm to Market Road 969 and Upper Elgin River Road.
