Nixa High School is a public high school in Nixa, Missouri, United States. Nixa High School received the National Blue Ribbon in 2013 [2] and 2022. [3] It was ranked number thirty in the state and first in the Springfield metropolitan area by U.S. News & World Report in 2022. [4] It is now ranked number nineteen in the state and first in the Springfield metropolitan area by U.S. News & World Report for 2023-24. [4] [5]
The first Nixa High School was established in 1908 and was a one-room schoolhouse. In 2000, the high school moved from the present day Nixa Junior High, (on Main Street), the new high school (on Nicholas Road).
In January 2022, Nixa High School officials reported that several soap dispensers had to be removed from the school's bathrooms after some students took them apart and urinated inside of them, and that they believed these actions were part of a TikTok challenge. [6]
Nixa High School has Football, Softball, Volleyball, Basketball, Wrestling, Baseball, Track and Field, Golf, Swimming, Bowling, Cross Country, Soccer, Tennis, and Bass Fishing.
The Nixa football team consists of three teams: Freshman, JV, and Varsity. In 2014, Nixa went to the Class 5 Football State Championship, but fell short by 3 points in a 25–22 loss to Battle High School. In early 2020, longtime coach Richard Rehagen retired as Nixa's football coach. Nixa hired John Perry; a coach from Mississippi who won state in 2016, as the new coach for the football team.
Volleyball
The Nixa Lady Eagles Volleyball team won the Class 4 State Championship against Lafayette in 2019, and got second place in the Class 5 State Championship against Liberty North in 2020.
Girls and Boys Basketball
Boys Basketball won state in 1978 and 1999 while Girls Basketball won state in 2000 and 2009.
Wrestling
Nixa has had numerous wrestlers win state over the years.
The marching band is directed by Craig Finger. The band is also called the "Nixa Crimson Corps" and uses that name for all of their current productions.
The marching band marches in local, regional and national competitions. The marching shows are as follows: Into the Storm (1999), When Kings Reigned (2002), Caged (2003), Full Circle (2004), R.E.M. (2005), Pulse (2006), Vertigo (2007), At Dawn They Slept (2008), A Brand New World (2009), ESCAPE (2010), Juxtapose (2011), Wolf (2012), Room 218: Night at the Crescent Hotel (2013), SUPER (2014), CONNECT (2015), Goodnight Moon (2016), JOY (2017), Birds of a Feather (2018), Thorns Remain (2019), Up and Away (2020), Kaleido: A Scope of Glass and Light (2021), This Winter’s Night (2022), Behind Their Eyes (2023), One Dark Night: Stories in the Sky (2024)
Starting in the 2023 season, the band abandoned the model of using the same uniforms for several years, and began using new uniforms each season which would be tailored to that season's show theme, similar to the color guard uniforms.
The band also marches in local parades, including the Nixa Christmas Parade, and Nixa Sucker Days Festival.
During the spring semester, the 220+ Nixa High School band divides into three concert large ensembles including Concert Band, Symphonic Band, and Wind Ensemble, and several smaller ensembles, including Percussion, and Jazz ensembles.
The Nixa Theater department performs two musicals per year.
FFA
In 2021, Nixa High School brought the FFA back to the school.
Homewood-Flossmoor High School (H-F) is a comprehensive public high school in Flossmoor, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago. The district encompasses nearly 11.5 square miles (30 km2) drawing students from Homewood, Flossmoor, Chicago Heights, Glenwood, Hazel Crest, and Olympia Fields. A three-time U.S. Department of Education Blue Ribbon Award Winner, Homewood-Flossmoor continues to be ranked nationally, including as one of America’s Best High Schools by U.S. News & World Report in 2020.
Cathedral High School is a private Catholic high school in Indianapolis, Indiana. The school serves approximately 1,200 students in grades 9 to 12. The school was founded in the Archdiocese of Indianapolis by Bishop Joseph Chartrand in 1918 and was run by the Brothers of Holy Cross until it became independent by the late 1970s. Holy Cross returned to the school in 2011.
Lloyd V. Berkner High School is a high school in Richardson, in the U.S. state of Texas, with a 2008 enrollment of 2,755 and a student/teacher ratio of 16.7. It is one of four high schools in the Richardson Independent School District.
Virgil I. Grissom High School, more commonly referred to as Grissom High School, is a public high school in Huntsville, Alabama, United States with approximately 2000 students in grades 9–12 from Southeast Huntsville. Clarke County High School is a public high school in Berryville, Virginia. CCHS was ranked 19th on Newsweek's Top 1200 High Schools list in 2006. This used a metric based on the amount of Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate tests taken by all the students in 2005 divided by the amount of graduating seniors. Its courses cover a wide spectrum of advanced levels including the International Baccalaureate program; dual-enrollment courses with Laurel Ridge Community College and AP courses. Brecksville–Broadview Heights High School is a comprehensive public high school located in Broadview Heights, Ohio, United States. The school has approximately 1,350 students in grades 9–12. Students come from the communities of Brecksville, Broadview Heights, and a very small segment of North Royalton. The school year consists of two 90-day semesters with four nine-week grading periods. Athletic teams are known as the Bees and the school colors are crimson and gold.
