It was established in 1961, the second institution to open as part of what is now a 15 community college system in Massachusetts. Cape Cod Community College is the only community college and one of three colleges on Cape Cod. It awards Associate in Arts and Associate in Science degrees and various academic certificates in a wide variety of programs. The college offers access to on-campus bachelor's and master's degree programs in partnership with: Bridgewater State University, Boston University, Lesley University, Salem State University, Suffolk University, UMass Boston, and UMass Dartmouth. Cape Cod Community College formally had a partnership with Wheelock College before that merged with Boston University to become the Boston University Wheelock College of Education & Human Development on Boston University's Fenway Campus. Springfield Technical Community College is a public technical college in Springfield, Massachusetts. It is the only technical community college in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Located on the site of the Springfield Armory National Park, which was founded by Henry Knox and George Washington during the Revolutionary War, Springfield Technical Community College now occupies many of the buildings used by the U.S. Armory at Springfield prior to the Armory's closure in 1969. While 20 acres (81,000 m2) of the 55-acre (220,000 m2) site remain in the hands of the U.S. National Park Service for historic preservation, 35 acres (140,000 m2) comprise the college campus. Numerous historic buildings have been repurposed as classrooms, in addition to newer facilities built on-site.

Greenfield Community College (GCC) is a public community college in Greenfield, Massachusetts. It was founded in 1962 and is one of Massachusetts's 15 community colleges. The main campus, which comprises two buildings, is located in Greenfield, Massachusetts on a 107-acre property near the junction of Interstate 91 and Route 2. The school operates a satellite campus for its practical nursing program in Northampton, Massachusetts. GCC students hail from Hampshire, Franklin, and Worcester Counties in Western Massachusetts, as well as southern Vermont and New Hampshire. Many of GCC's transfer students continue on at one of Hampshire County's Five Colleges, or to one of 14 Massachusetts State Universities. GCC is the largest source of transfer students to Smith College.

Roxbury Community College (RCC) is a public community college in the Roxbury neighborhood of Boston, Massachusetts. RCC offers associate degrees in arts, and sciences, as well as certificates. RCC has transfer agreements with Curry College, Northeastern University, Emerson College, Lesley University, and other four-year schools. RCC credits transfer to all public colleges and universities in Massachusetts through the MassTransfer Program.
