The 56th Norwegian Biathlon Championships were held in Voss, Hordaland, Norway from 25 March to 30 March 2014 at the stadium Voss ski- og tursenter, arranged by Voss SSL. There were a total of 8 scheduled competitions: individual, sprint, mass start and relay races for men and women. The stadium had been fitted with new electronic targets. The targets were made from rubber rather than the conventional metal. Based on the sound made when the bullet hit the target, the computer system calculated exactly where the bullet hit. The targets were produced by Megalink AS. [1]

Hordaland is a county in Norway, bordering Sogn og Fjordane, Buskerud, Telemark, and Rogaland counties. Hordaland is the third largest county after Akershus and Oslo by population. Ole Einar Bjørndalen did not participate in any races due to fever, but still appeared at the stadium during the championships, mingling with the fans and even commentating the men's mass start for the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation. Ole Einar Bjørndalen is a retired Norwegian professional biathlete, often referred to by the nickname, the "King of Biathlon". With 13 Winter Olympic Games medals, he is second on the list of multiple medalists behind Marit Bjørgen who has won 15 medals. He is also the most successful biathlete of all time at the Biathlon World Championships, having won 45 medals, more than double that of any other biathlete except Martin Fourcade. With 95 World Cup wins, Bjørndalen is ranked first all-time for career victories on the Biathlon World Cup tour, more than twice that of anyone else but Fourcade. He has won the Overall World Cup title six times, in 1997–98, in 2002–03, in 2004–05, in 2005–06, in 2007–08 and in 2008–09.

The 1982–83 Biathlon World Cup was a multi-race tournament over a season of biathlon, organised by the UIPMB. The season started on 27 January 1983 in Ruhpolding, West Germany, and ended on 11 March 1983 in Holmenkollen, Norway. It was the sixth season of the Biathlon World Cup, and the first in which women were allowed to compete in their own European Cup. Though called the European Cup, participation was not restricted to Europeans.

The 57th Norwegian Biathlon Championships were held in Sirdal, Vest-Agder, Norway from 25 March to 29 March 2015 at the stadium Feed skiarena, arranged by Tonstad IL. There were a total of 8 scheduled competitions: sprint, individual, and relay races for men and women; and a pursuit for the women and a mass start for the men. A pursuit race after the sprint race was scheduled for the men, but that was changed to a mass start race with 60 participants so as to include some of the elite team that had been delayed by the weather and so had been unable to compete in the sprint race. Among these were Emil Hegle Svendsen and Tarjei Bø.

The 1st Norwegian Biathlon Championships were held in Bærum, Akershus, Norway on 1 February 1959 at the stadium Løvenskioldbanen, arranged by Stor-Oslo Home Guard District 02. There was one scheduled competition: a 20 km individual race for men.
The 18th Norwegian Summer Biathlon Championships were held in Os, Hedmark, Norway from 21 August to 23 August 2015 at the stadium Hummelfjell TOS Arena, arranged by Røros IL and Os IL. There were a total of 4 scheduled competitions: sprint and pursuit races for men and women. The rules were identical with winter biathlon, with the exception of competing on asphalt using roller skis and the appropriate safety gear.

The 2018 season was Viking's 1st year back in 1. divisjon, after 29 consecutive seasons in the top flight of Norwegian football.
