Norwegian Biathlon Championships 2015

The 57th Norwegian Biathlon Championships were held in Sirdal, Vest-Agder, Norway from 25 March to 29 March 2015 at the stadium Feed skiarena, arranged by Tonstad IL. There were a total of 8 scheduled competitions: sprint, individual, and relay races for men and women; and a pursuit for the women and a mass start for the men. A pursuit race after the sprint race was scheduled for the men, but that was changed to a mass start race with 60 participants so as to include some of the elite team that had been delayed by the weather and so had been unable to compete in the sprint race. Among these were Emil Hegle Svendsen and Tarjei Bø.^[1]

The Norwegian Biathlon Championships is the national biathlon championships of Norway and have been held every year since 1959.

Sirdal is a municipality in Vest-Agder county, Norway. It is located in the northwestern part of the traditional district of Lister. The administrative centre of the municipality is the village of Tonstad. Other villages in Sirdal include Bjørnestad, Haughom, Kvæven, Lunde, and Tjørhom.

Vest-Agder[²vɛstˌɑɡdər](listen)(West Agder) is a county in Norway, bordering Rogaland to the West and Aust-Agder to the East. In 2016, there were 182,701 inhabitants, which is about 3.5% of the total population of Norway. Its area is about 7,277 square kilometres (2,810 sq mi). Ole Einar Bjørndalen is a retired Norwegian professional biathlete, often referred to by the nickname, the "King of Biathlon". With 13 Winter Olympic Games medals, he is second on the list of multiple medalists behind Marit Bjørgen who has won 15 medals. He is also the most successful biathlete of all time at the Biathlon World Championships, having won 45 medals, more than double that of any other biathlete except Martin Fourcade. With 95 World Cup wins, Bjørndalen is ranked first all-time for career victories on the Biathlon World Cup tour, more than twice that of anyone else but Fourcade. He has won the Overall World Cup title six times, in 1997–98, in 2002–03, in 2004–05, in 2005–06, in 2007–08 and in 2008–09.

Khanty-Mansiysk is a town and the administrative center of Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug, Russia. It is located on the eastern bank of the Irtysh River, 15 kilometers (9.3 mi) from its confluence with the Ob, in the oil-rich region of Western Siberia. Khanty-Mansiysk is an independent city, but is the administrative center of Khanty-Mansiysky District. It was previously known as Ostyako-Vogulsk.

Tarjei Bø is a Norwegian professional biathlete. Bø debuted in the Biathlon World Cup on 26 March 2009 in Khanty-Mansiysk, Russia, and won his first World Cup victory on 10 December 2010. In the 2010 Winter Olympics he earned his first gold medal in the 4 × 7.5 km biathlon relay. On 10 December 2010 he won the sprint race in Hochfilzen, earning his first world cup victory. He also won the following pursuit race and anchored the winning relay team. Bø is the older brother of biathlete Johannes Thingnes Bø.

Martin Fourcade is a French biathlete and Sous-lieutenant. He is a five-time Olympic champion, an eleven-time World Champion and a seven-time winner of the Overall World Cup. As of February 2018, he is the most successful French Olympian of all time. Fourcade is the all-time biathlon record holder of overall World Cup titles with seven big crystal globes and he’s also the all-time record holder of the most consecutive Major Championships titles with at least one non-team gold medal in all the last eight Championships.

The 48th Biathlon World Championships was held in Oslo, Norway from 3 to 13 March 2016.

Tiril Kampenhaug Eckhoff is a Norwegian biathlete who represents Fossum IF. She is an Olympic champion, winning the Mixed Relay at the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics, and also won a bronze in the Mass start, a feat she repeated at the 2018 Winter Olympics. Eckhoff is also a two-time gold medallist from the 2016 Biathlon World Championships in Oslo where she won both the relay and an individual gold in the 7.5 sprint. She is the sister of fellow biathlete Stian Eckhoff.

The 56th Norwegian Biathlon Championships were held in Voss, Hordaland, Norway from 25 March to 30 March 2014 at the stadium Voss ski- og tursenter, arranged by Voss SSL. There were a total of 8 scheduled competitions: individual, sprint, mass start and relay races for men and women. The stadium had been fitted with new electronic targets. The targets were made from rubber rather than the conventional metal. Based on the sound made when the bullet hit the target, the computer system calculated exactly where the bullet hit. The targets were produced by Megalink AS.

The 55th Norwegian Biathlon Championships were held in Dombås, Oppland, Norway from 20 March to 24 March 2013 at the stadium Sparebank 1 skiarena, arranged by Dombås IL. There were a total of 8 scheduled competitions: individual, sprint, pursuit and relay races for men and women.

The 18th Norwegian Summer Biathlon Championships were held in Os, Hedmark, Norway from 21 August to 23 August 2015 at the stadium Hummelfjell TOS Arena, arranged by Røros IL and Os IL. There were a total of 4 scheduled competitions: sprint and pursuit races for men and women. The rules were identical with winter biathlon, with the exception of competing on asphalt using roller skis and the appropriate safety gear.

The 17th Norwegian Summer Biathlon Championships were held in Steinkjer, Nord-Trøndelag, Norway from 19 September to 21 September 2014 at the stadium Steinkjer skistadion, arranged by Steinkjer Skiklubb. There were a total of 4 scheduled competitions: sprint and pursuit races for men and women. The rules were identical with winter biathlon, with the exception of competing on asphalt using roller skis and the appropriate safety gear.

The 32nd Norwegian Biathlon Championships were held in Myrkdalen, Voss, Hordaland, Norway from 1 March to 4 March 1990 at the stadium Årmotslia skisenter, arranged by Voss SSL. There were 6 scheduled competitions: individual, sprint, and relay races for men and women. The team races for men and women, arranged by Dombås IL, were held concurrently with the final races of the Norwegian Biathlon Cup (Norgescupen) in Dombås, Oppland on 25 March, at the stadium Dombås skiskytterstadion.

The 33rd Norwegian Biathlon Championships were held in Steinkjer, Nord-Trøndelag, Norway from 10 January to 13 January 1991 at the stadium Steinkjer skistadion, arranged by Steinkjer SK. There were 6 scheduled competitions: individual, sprint, and relay races for men and women. The team races for men and women were held on 24 March, concurrently with the final races of the Norwegian Biathlon Cup (Norgescupen), in Orkdal, at the stadium Knyken Skisenter, arranged by Orkdal IL.

The 58th Norwegian Biathlon Championships were held in Dombås, Oppland, Norway from 31 March to 3 April 2016 at the stadium Dombås Skiarena, arranged by Dombås IL. There were a total of 8 scheduled competitions: sprint, pursuit, mass start and relay races for men and women.
