Beetle order of insects

Beetles are a group of insects that form the order Coleoptera, in the superorder Endopterygota. Their front pair of wings are hardened into wing-cases, elytra, distinguishing them from most other insects. The Coleoptera, with about 400,000 species, is the largest of all orders, constituting almost 40% of described insects and 25% of all known animal life-forms; new species are discovered frequently. The largest of all families, the Curculionidae (weevils) with some 80,000 member species, belongs to this order. Found in almost every habitat except the sea and the polar regions, they interact with their ecosystems in several ways: beetles often feed on plants and fungi, break down animal and plant debris, and eat other invertebrates. Some species are serious agricultural pests, such as the Colorado potato beetle, while others such as Coccinellidae eat aphids, scale insects, thrips, and other plant-sucking insects that damage crops.

Stephan von Breuning (entomologist) Austrian entomologist

Stephan von Breuning was an Austrian entomologist who specialised in Coleoptera, particularly Cerambycidae.

Sri Lanka Island country in South Asia

Sri Lanka, officially the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, is an island country in South Asia, located in the Indian Ocean to the southwest of the Bay of Bengal and to the southeast of the Arabian Sea. The island is geographically separated from the Indian subcontinent by the Gulf of Mannar and the Palk Strait. The legislative capital, Sri Jayawardenepura Kotte, is a suburb of the commercial capital and largest city, Colombo.

It's 11 mm long and 3¼ mm wide, and its type locality is Bogawantalawa, Sri Lanka. It was named in honor of Embrik Strand, in whose Festschrift the species description was written. [2]

Bogawantalawa is a small town in the Central province of Sri Lanka. It is at 1514 m elevation above sea level, about 150 km east of Colombo, famous for its tea estates.

Embrik Strand was an entomologist and arachnologist who classified many insect and spider species including the greenbottle blue tarantula.

In academia, a Festschrift is a book honoring a respected person, especially an academic, and presented during their lifetime. It generally takes the form of an edited volume, containing contributions from the honoree's colleagues, former pupils, and friends.
