In his review for Allmusic, Gregory Heaney says "the Now series delivers a dose of good ol' classic rock with Now That's What I Call Classic Rock Hits," which "gathers some of rock's most enduring crossover hits." Now That's What I Call Classic Rock Hits is "an album that achieves its primary goal of being able to please most of the people most of the time with a wide-ranging selection of hits that should fit into most anyone's definition of classic rock." Gang of Four were an English post-punk band, formed in 1976 in Leeds. The original members were singer Jon King, guitarist Andy Gill, bass guitarist Dave Allen and drummer Hugo Burnham. There have been many different line-ups including, among other notable musicians, Sara Lee, Mark Heaney and Gail Ann Dorsey. After a brief lull in the 1980s, different constellations of the band recorded two studio albums in the 1990s. Between 2004 and 2006 the original line-up was reunited; Gill toured using the name between 2012 and his death in 2020.
Now That's What I Call Music! is a series of various artists compilation albums released in the United Kingdom and Ireland by Sony Music and Universal Music which began in 1983. Spinoff series began for other countries the following year, starting with South Africa, and many other countries worldwide soon followed, expanding into Asia in 1995, then the United States in 1998.

The Classic Crime is an American rock band from Seattle, Washington formed in 2004. The band's current lineup consists of Matt MacDonald, Alan Clark (bass), Robert "Cheeze" Negrin (guitar), and Paul "Skip" Erickson. They have released three albums and an EP on Tooth & Nail Records, two of which, The Silver Cord (2008) and Vagabonds (2010), charted in the Billboard 200. In July 2011, the band left Tooth & Nail to produce a fourth album with the help of fan donations via Kickstarter, called Phoenix (2012). In April 2016, the Classic Crime created a Kickstarter to raise funds for a sixth studio album. Within three hours they acquired the necessary $30,000 for the album. On April 28, 2017 they released their sixth studio album titled How to Be Human (2017).
Now That's What I Call Music! 39 was released on August 9, 2011. The album is the 39th edition of the Now! series in the United States. Three tracks on the album, "Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)", "Party Rock Anthem" and "Give Me Everything", reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100.
Now That's What I Call Music! 40 was released on November 8, 2011. The album is the 40th edition of the Now! series in the United States. To celebrate the release of its 40th disc, two versions were released: the standard edition containing "16 of the hottest tracks from the last few months", including the Billboard Hot 100 number-one hit, "Moves Like Jagger", and a two-disc Deluxe Edition set that "includes all the hits in the standard set, as well as the greatest hits from the last several years featured on previous sets." Also included on the second disc are two songs not featured on prior Now installments - but still reached the top 5 of the Billboard Hot 100 - "Low" by Flo Rida and "Cry Me A River" by Justin Timberlake.

Royal Thunder is an American rock band from Atlanta, Georgia, founded in 2004 by guitarist Josh Weaver. Their style of hard rock takes its primary influence from classic rock and 1990s grunge with elements of progressive rock and psychedelic rock. Rolling Stone has described the band as "a bit like an alternate universe where Janis Joplin fronted Led Zeppelin."
Long Stick Goes Boom: Live From Da House of Rust is a live album by melodic hard rock band Krokus. Released on 24 March 2014 in Europe and 22 April 2014 in North America by the label Columbia, it was recorded on August 30, 2013 at the "House of Rust" venue in Solothurn, Switzerland. The album has received praise from publications such as Allmusic and Blabbermouth.net, and it peaked at the #3 position on the official Swiss album chart.
