Numen: Contest of Heroes is a 2009 (released in 2010 worldwide) video game developed by the Czech company Cinemax. [3]
Numen is a Greek mythology-themed action role-playing game. The player's character levels up by killing monsters and completing quests, upon which their abilities improve. Some skills improve automatically based on the abilities performed, but the player may also allocate points. Combat is real-time, but the mechanics are likened more to those of MMORPGs rather than the hack and slash genre. [4]
The game is about two siblings – a boy Aster and a girl Philia. The player can choose which one he wants to play as. [lower-alpha 1] They live at their uncle until Philia is killed by a Scorpion. Aster then takes her body to Parnassus mountain as the tradition calls. There he meets a messenger of gods Iris. She gives him an offer to choose his god and serve him. He can in return have his sister resurrected if the god is pleased. Aster agrees and is taken to a place where is trained until he grows up.
Aster is sent to Machatar a town where he meets a priest of his god. He is tasked to retrieve a Sickle of Cronus. The same task is also given to other 8 heroes who serve to their god. Aster is supposed to retrieve it sooner than any of other heroes. Aster seeks help at a witch Misarica. She reluctantly helps him after he accomplishes some of her quests. It is revealed that Talos participated in stealing the Sickle. His search for Talos leads him to a thief who used Talos to steal the Sickle and then destroyed him. The thief reveals that he was hired by some mysterious person. Aster then seeks help at Misarica once again. She leads him to a three-headed dog Othrus. Aster then finds the dog and kills it. After that he meets a Titan Geryon who has the Sickle. Aster defeats Geryon and retrieves the Sickle. His god is pleased and Philia is resurrected.
Numen was developed using the CPAL3D engine. [5] The game was announced in 2007. It was finished on 25 November 2009 with release date scheduled for 14 December. Developers also mentioned a possibility of an expansion pack which was later denied due to low sales and not wanting to work with CPAL3D again. [6] [7] [8]
Developers later revealed that game sold in the Czech Republic 500 copies while 17 000 counterfeit copies had been evidenced. Developers decided to use digital rights management with a new pack. It caused player not to be allowed to progress at one point in the game and been reprimanded for being a pirate. Developers then started to investigate a high rate of copyright infringement. They eventually revealed that the game was leaked by a person with nickname THX-1138. The person was revealed to be Martin Holas, a video game journalist who wrote a Numen review for Czech version of Eurogamer where he gave it 40%. Eurogamer distanced itself from his private activities and fired him, but also held his review to be accurate. [9] [10] [11]
The game has received mixed reviews from critics. [12] [13] Gaming Nexus gave the game 79%, praising gameplay and the story even though it had a slow boring start. The reviewer also noted that he liked the possibility of working against other heroes; he also wrote that he enjoyed the visuals of the gaming world. On the other hand, he criticised an abrupt ending and shortness.

It was released for Microsoft Windows on 15 March 2001 in Germany, on 30 October 2001 in Europe, on 23 November 2001 in North America and on 28 March 2002 in Poland. Minsc is a fictional character in the Baldur's Gate series of Dungeons & Dragons role-playing video games developed by BioWare and Larian Studios. He originated from the pen-and-paper Dungeons & Dragons sessions held by the lead designer of Baldur's Gate, James Ohlen, and was expanded upon by the game's lead writer, Lukas Kristjanson. His video game debut was in Baldur's Gate as a companion character who can join the player's party. He also appears in the sequel, Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn, the expansion, Baldur's Gate II: Throne of Bhaal, the 2015 game Baldur's Gate: Siege of Dragonspear, the 2023 game Baldur's Gate 3, as well as in promotions relating to the titles. Darkspore is a video game that borrowed creature editing technology from Spore. It was described as "a fast-paced, science fiction action role-playing game in which the player battled across alien worlds to save the galaxy from the mutated forces of Darkspore". In addition to the creature editor, the game features a unique squad-based mechanic, various multiplayer options, and a player versus player arena. The game was released in North America on April 26, 2011, for Microsoft Windows, and in Europe on April 28, 2011.

Three more years were needed to translate the game into English, and it was released on GOG.com on September 5, 2012. On June 1, 2013, Inquisitor was greenlit on Steam.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance is a 2018 action role-playing video game developed and published by Warhorse Studios, and co-published by Deep Silver. The game is set in the medieval Kingdom of Bohemia, an Imperial State of the Holy Roman Empire, with a focus on historically accurate content.
The video game industry in the Czech Republic has produced numerous globally successful video games such as Operation Flashpoint: Cold War Crisis and the subsequent ArmA series, the Mafia series, Truck Simulator series, the Kingdom Come: Deliverance series, the Samorost series and others. There were 300–400 video game developers and around 30 video game companies focusing on video game development in 2014. In 2017 it was 1,100 developers and 47 companies. Video games are also considered by some experts to be the country's biggest cultural export. The video game industry did not enjoy a good reputation and was unsupported by the state until 2013, when the Ministry of Industry and Trade started to seek ways to kickstart the economy. By 2014, programs were planned to support the video game industry. Another problem is a lack of video game development specialization at any university.
Fallout 1.5: Resurrection is a mod for Fallout 2. Developed by four fans of the game from the Czech Republic, a version was released there on 3 October 2013. Working on the mod during their free time, the development took approximately 10 years. The mod offers a completely new story and locations. It is estimated that finishing the game takes 25 hours.
The Talos Principle is a 2014 puzzle video game developed by Croteam and published by Devolver Digital. It was simultaneously released on Linux, OS X and Windows in December 2014. It was released for Android in May 2015, for PlayStation 4 in October 2015, for iOS in October 2017, for Xbox One in August 2018, and Nintendo Switch in December 2019.
