Ferencvárosi Torna Club, known as Ferencváros, Fradi, or simply FTC, is a professional football club based in Ferencváros, Budapest, Hungary, that competes in the Nemzeti Bajnokság I, the top flight of Hungarian football. Ferencváros was founded in 1899 by Ferenc Springer and a group of local residents of Budapest's ninth district, Ferencváros. Ferencváros is best known internationally for winning the 1964–65 edition of the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup after defeating Juventus 1–0 in Turin in the final. Ferencváros also reached the final in the same competition in 1968, when they lost to Leeds United, as well as the final in the 1974–75 season of the European Cup Winners' Cup, losing to Dynamo Kyiv.
The Nemzeti Bajnokság, also known as NB I, is the top level of the Hungarian football league system. The league is officially named OTP Bank Liga after its title sponsor OTP Bank. UEFA currently ranks the league 28th in Europe.
Asociația Fotbal Club Venus 1914 București, commonly known as Venus București, or simply as Venus, is a Romanian amateur football club based in Bucharest, founded in 1914 and re-founded in 2014. The club is currently playing in the Liga V.
The 2006-07 Hungarian Cup had involved professional teams at all levels throughout the country. The winner of the Hungarian Cup is guaranteed no worse than one of Hungary's two spots in the UEFA Cup. In 2007, Honvéd Budapest won the competition by beating NB I champions VSC Debrecen in the final on May 9, 2007.
The 1998–99 Nemzeti Bajnokság I, also known as NB I for short, was the 97th season of top-tier football in Hungary. The league is officially named Professzionális Nemzeti Bajnokság (PNB) for sponsorship reasons. The season began on 24 July 1998 and ended on the weekend 16 June 1999. Újpest are the defending champions, having won their 20th Hungarian championship at the end of the 1998–99 season.
The 1929 season of the Mitropa Cup football club tournament was won by Újpest FC in a two-legged final against Slavia Prague. This was the third edition of the tournament, and the first edition in which Italian clubs competed and Yugoslavian clubs did not compete. Clubs from Yugoslavia were barred from the competition after King Alexander declared a royal dictatorship on January 6 of that year.
Tibor Kemeny also referred to as Kemeny Tibor, was a Hungarian football player and coach, who played as a forward for Ferencvarosi TC and the Hungarian national team. He was part of the team in the 1934 World Cup. He played one match in World Cup, against Austria in the quarter finals. With Ferencvaros, he faced Juventus twice in 1938.
The Hungarian Cup is the Hungarian cup competition for football clubs. It was started by the Hungarian Football Association, the Magyar Labdarúgó Szövetség, in 1909, eight years after the commencement of the Hungarian League, the Nemzeti Bajnokság.
The fixture between Ferencvárosi TC and Újpest FC is a local derby in Budapest, Hungary and a fierce rivalry. The two clubs are the most popular clubs in the country and two of the most successful ones.
Zoltán Opata was a Hungarian football player and manager. As a player, he won six Hungarian league championships with Budapest-based side MTK in the 1920s and regularly appeared for Hungary national football team. After retiring from playing he became a manager and had successful spells with clubs in Yugoslavia, Romania and Poland.

Hungarian football clubs have entered European association football competitions since 1955, when MTK Budapest, Vasas Budapest and Budapest Honved took part in the inaugural Inter-Cities Fairs Cup. In the European Cup three clubs reached the semi-finals. In the 1957-58 season Vasas Budapest, in the 1964-65 season Győr and in the 1973-74 season Újpest. In the Champions League era two Hungarian clubs reached the group stages: Ferencváros in the 1995-96 season, and Debrecen in the 2009–10 season. The only Hungarian club who won any European trophies are Ferencváros by winning the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup 1964-65 season.
The 1940 Mitropa Cup was the 14th edition of the Mitropa Cup and the last season played before the competition was interrupted by the Second World War. The competition would be resumed after the war under the name Zentropa Cup but by that time it was overshadowed by the newly formed European Cup which included teams from all parts of Europe. Last season's champions Újpest were eliminated at the quarter-final stage of the competition. This edition is notable for being the first edition in which a team from Romania reached the final. Rapid București of Romania beat Hungária FC MTK Budapest of Hungary in the quarterfinals and got past Građanski of Yugoslavia in the semifinals to get to the finals in which they were to play Ferencváros. The final was cancelled due to the Second World War.

The 2015–16 season was Újpest FC's 110th competitive season, 104rd consecutive season in the OTP Bank Liga and 130th year in existence as a football club.
The 1939 season of the Mitropa Cup football club tournament was won by Újpest who defeated fellow Hungarian side Ferencváros 6–3 on aggregate in the final. It was the third consecutive final appearance for Ferencváros and it was Újpest's second and final victory in the competition.
