The 2003–04 UEFA Cup was won by Valencia in the final against Marseille. It wrapped up a league and UEFA Cup double for Valencia.

All four semi-finalists came from West Germany, and a fifth was eliminated in the quarter-finals. This is the only time all four semi-finalists in a UEFA club competition came from a single nation.

The qualification for the UEFA Women's Euro 1997 was held between 17 September 1995 and 29 September 1996. The first-placed of the group stage qualified directly. The second-placed and the third-placed teams played in two playoff matches for four other berths.

The 2007 UEFA Intertoto Cup was the 19th and penultimate edition of the competition and took 50 entries. Three rounds were held, and 11 teams qualified for the second qualifying round of the UEFA Cup. The draw took place at UEFA headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland on 23 April 2007. The overall champion was Hamburg after they progressed further than the other Intertoto sides in the UEFA Cup.

The qualifying rounds for the 2007–08 UEFA Champions League began on 17 July 2007. In total, there were three qualifying rounds which provided 16 clubs to join the group stage.

The teams competing in Group 3 of the 2004 UEFA European Under-21 Championships qualifying competition were Czech Republic, Netherlands, Austria, Belarus and Moldova.

The 2014–15 UEFA Europa League qualifying phase and play-off round were played from 1 July to 28 August 2014. A total of 170 teams competed in the qualifying phase and play-off round to decide 31 of the 48 places in the group stage of the 2014–15 UEFA Europa League.

The first round matches of the 2006–07 UEFA Cup were played on 14 and 28 September 2006, which narrowed clubs down to 40 teams in preparation for the group stage.

The second round of the 2002–03 UEFA Cup was contested between 29 October and 14 November 2002. A total of 48 teams participated in this round, with the 24 winners joining the eight Champions League group stage third-placed teams in the third round.

The 2015–16 UEFA Europa League qualifying phase began on 30 June and ended on 6 August 2015. A total of 157 teams competed in the qualifying phase to decide which 44 teams would participate in the play-off round of the 2015–16 UEFA Europa League, the final round before the group stage.
