The OSE class 220, also known as DE2000 or Marlboro, due to the coloring of the front, reminiscent of the packaging colors of the homonymous tobacco industry, is a series of diesel-electric locomotives operated by TRAINOSE and RCLG [2] and is part of the OSE fleet. It was built in 1998 at the ADTranz (and later Bombardier) factories in Kassel, Germany, as the A.471 series, but in 2003 OSE acquired another batch. The locomotives were put into operation by OSE after the completion of their construction.
In total, there are 36 such locomotives, numbered 220 001-220 036, of which the first 26 were originally numbered A.471-A.496. All of the locomotives were designed by the manufacturers while the final assembly was made in Oerlikon, Switzerland. [3] They are designed for intercity trains, high-speed trains as well as freight trains. [4]
They are based on the Octeon model of ADtranz, and feature similar features to the Italian E412 and PKP EU43, and have the same engines (MTU 12V396TC13) with the AEG DE IC-2000N.
Class 220 serves long-distance express trains on the Piraeus-Thessalonik i line, in the section from Athens to Paleofarsalos, [5] on trains 50, [6] 51, 55, [7] 56, 58, [8] 59, 60 [9] and 61, and in the section from Tithorea to Paleofarsalos, on trains 52 and 53, [10] and in the Paleoparsalos-Kalampaka line. In 1998, OSE began to receive the Adtranz DE2000 diesel locomotives, which were ordered at a cost of DM 210 million in 1995. [3] These dual-engine dual-cab locomotives were related to FS Class E.412 and EU43 series for PKP and were based on the Octeon platform. The MTU 12V396TC13 engine was virtually the same as that used in AEG/LEW-built InterCity DMUs (AEG DE IC-2000N) a decade ago, and this commonality was desirable; the engine pair delivered 2.1 MW (train heating could consume up to 500 KW of power from intermediate DC link as there was no separate head-end power generator).[ citation needed ]
The locomotives used steel from Poland's Pafawag, aluminium roof panels from Derby in the United Kingdom, AC motors and alternators from Adtranz Austria, while the bogies were Flexifloat (made in Kassel), also used in German InterCity Express. An interesting feature was that engines of these machines were "convertible" into clean 5.5 MW electric motors with a maximum speed of 200 km/h (120 mph) (engine's controller could already accommodate the highest speed and horsepower). [4] They were numbered A.471 to A.496.
Later, an order for ten more locomotives (this time, in meter gauge and with 6 axles) for the Peloponnese network was converted to an order for ten normal 4-axle range from Bombardier. The second batch was delivered in 2003–2004. In the same year, the gradual renovation of the older units began.
Colour scheme of the diesel-electric locomotives consists of a blue trapezoid within a white trapezoid, with cabs painted red and cab fronts having large white polygons (giving rise to the nickname "Marlboro," from resemblance to the well-known brand of cigarettes).
Adtranz was a multi-national rail transportation equipment manufacturer with facilities concentrated in Europe and the US. The company, legally known as ABB Daimler-Benz Transportation was created in 1996 as a joint venture between ABB and Daimler-Benz to combine their rail equipment manufacturing operations. In 1999, DaimlerChrysler bought ABB's shares and changed the company's official name to DaimlerChrysler Rail Systems. The company was acquired by Bombardier Inc. in 2001, which merged it into its Bombardier Transportation division, which became the largest rail equipment manufacturer in the world at the time, and was ultimately acquired by Alstom in 2021.
The M62 is a Soviet-built diesel locomotive for heavy freight trains, exported to many Eastern Bloc countries as well as to Cuba, North Korea and Mongolia. Beside the single locomotive M62 also twin versions 2M62 and three-section versions 3M62 have been built. A total number of 7,164 single sections have been produced, which have been used to build 5,231 single-, twin- and three-section locomotives.
Alstom Traxx is a modular product platform of mainline diesel-electric and electric locomotives. It was produced originally by Bombardier Transportation and later Alstom, and was built in both freight and passenger variants. The first version was a dual-voltage AC locomotive built for German railways from the year 2000. Later types included DC versions, as well as quadruple-voltage machines, able to operate on most European electrification schemes: 1.5/3.0 kV DC and 15/25 kV AC. The family was expanded in 2006 to include diesel-powered versions. Elements common to all variants include steel bodyshells, two bogies with two powered axles each, three-phase asynchronous induction motors, cooling exhausts on the roof edges, and wheel disc brakes.
The Bombardier Double-deck Coach is a bilevel passenger railcar currently manufactured by Alstom, which acquired Bombardier Transportation in 2021 used by various European railways and Israel Railways. The current generation of double-deck coaches can be run at speeds up to 200 km/h (125 mph). Depending on their configuration, each coach can seat 100 to 150 passengers.
The PKP class Lyd2 is a narrow gauge diesel-hydraulic locomotive built by FAUR in Romania, for use initially for sugar cane railway in Egypt with later variants developed for use in Poland, Romania and Albania. It was commissioned by Polskie Koleje Państwowe for service on the railways of Poland.
The NMBS/SNCB Class 77 is a class of 4 axle B'B' road switcher diesel hydraulic locomotive designed for shunting and freight work manufactured at the beginning of the 2000s by Vossloh Schienentechnik/Vossloh Locomotives at the Maschinenbau Kiel plant in Kiel, Germany for the National Railway Company of Belgium (SNCB/NMBS).
This is a list of past and present rolling stock owned and operated by Croatian Railways, consisting of diesel locomotives, electric locomotives, diesel multiple units, electric multiple units and railroad cars. When the company began operation in 1991, it was with a collection of equipment inherited from „ŽTP Zagreb“ – a Croatian division of Yugoslav Railways. Much of this equipment was later refurbished/modernized and remains in use today. Over the years, Croatian Railways has supplemented this initial fleet with new orders and with new acquisitions of secondhand equipment from other operators.
128 001, as registered at Deutsche Bahn, or 12X, as named by its manufacturer AEG Schienenfahrzeuge and its successive owners ADtranz and Bombardier Transportation, is an experimental high-performance electric locomotive built in 1994, which was operated as testbed and test locomotive until 2010. The design of the locomotive featured several technological innovations, including power electronics using new types of semiconductors and water cooling, a new final drive concept, a new bogie concept, and protruding windflaps for improved aerodynamics that gave the locomotive a unique look.
Hellenic Train Class 120, also known as Hellas Sprinter, is a class of electric locomotives operated by Hellenic Train. It is part of OSE's rolling stock. They were manufactured by Siemens and Krauss-Maffei in Germany.
The Vossloh G1000 BB is a class of off-centre cab diesel-hydraulic B'B' 4 axle locomotives built by Vossloh in Kiel since 2002. When operating under Swiss ownership the locomotives have received the class Am 842, several units owned by the Société Nationale des Chemins de Fer Luxembourgeois are classified as CFL class 1100.
The rail vehicle factory in Hennigsdorf, Germany, was founded in 1910 by AEG. Locomotive production began in 1913, and in the 1930s absorbed the work of the August Borsig locomotive factory, being renamed the Borsig Lokomotiv Werke GmbH until 1944. After the Second World War the factory was nationalised in the German Democratic Republic and produced electric locomotives for home use and for export, mainly to Communist Bloc countries under the name Lokomotivbau-Elektrotechnische Werke (LEW).
Lika railway, officially a part of M604 railway, is a 220 km-long single-track, un-electrified railroad connecting Zagreb-Rijeka line with Knin railway hub. It mostly runs through Lika region. M604 railway is the only operating railway link between the continental Croatia and Dalmatia, especially its harbors of Split, Zadar, and Šibenik (M607). Lika railway, finished in 1925, is a key part of this link. The M604 line itself runs from Oštarije/Ogulin on Zagreb-Rijeka railway past Knin, to Split terminus. Its total length is 320 km. Historically, much older Knin-Split section of M604 line used to be known as Dalmatian railway.
The OSE class A.101, also known as Κruppάκι-Κruppάκια, due to its small size, only 10 meters long, is, along with the class A.201, the oldest series of locomotive operated by TRAINOSE and is part fleet of the OSE. It is a diesel-powered, built in 1962 by Krupp for SEK and was put into operation at OSE in 1971, with its foundation. It has a MTW GTO 6 diesel engine with combined power of 478 kW and reaching speeds of up to 70 km / h in freight and local trains, and 30 in shunting operations.
OSE class A.151 is a series of locomotives operated by TRAINOSE, which are part of TRAINOSE fleet. They were built by Faur in 1972. They resemble the class A.171, but their main difference is that the A.171 have engines with combined power of 920 kW while A.151 have engines with combined power of 507 kW, but have the same speed, faces and manufacturers, while being diesel driven. In total, there are 12 such machines. It reaches speeds of up to 70 kilometers per hour in course order and 35 in shunting. Class A.101 locomotives are based in the Rentis depot. They are four-axled locomotives from the existing production line. They were weighing 48 tons and 700 hp.
The OSE class A.201, also known as the Διακοσαράκι or Πλούτο (Pluto), after the well known cartoon, due to the generally not accepted aesthetic result of the reconstruction completed in 2010, is, along with the class A.101, the oldest locomotive operated by TRAINOSE. They were built in 1962 by Alco for SEK and were put into operation at OSE in 1971, when it was founded. It is the first diesel loco in regular use in Greece while at the same time they are the first diesel locomotive of the network and a leader of the ALCo family in Greece. Their advent was marked by the great progress towards changing the railway and the gradual abolition of the steam locomotives. It looks much like the A.321 and A.9101 classes.
OSE class A-450, also known as 450άρα or Καναδέζα is a series of diesel-electric locomotives used by TrainOSE. They were built and put into operation by OSE in 1973. Construction was made by Montreal Locomotive Works in Canada. Outwardly they look like the class A.501, with the basic difference that they are of lesser strength and have different appearance, before rebuilding, as in the elevated head-ons they housed the steam heating boiler. This allowed them to be used in passenger routes during the winter.
OSE class A.501, also known as 500άρα. or Καναδέζα, is a series of diesel-electric locomotives operated by TRAINOSE. This locomotive was built in 1974 at by MLW and was put into operation by OSE in 1975. Outwardly they resemble the class A.451 locomotive with the main difference that they are of higher power and have different appearance before rebuilding as they did not have an elevated head-on with steam heating boiler. This did not allow them to be used in passenger cars during the winter, although they had electric heating.
The OSE Class 460 is the only line of electric trainsets (EMU) in Greece and, together with the 621 class, it is the second most recent series of railcars operated by TRAINOSE after the 3107 class. They are OSE rolling stock and belong to the Desiro Classic generation, while they were manufactured by Siemens in 2006. They come in line with the 660 class but their main difference is that the 460 is electric-powered with five coaches while the 660 is diesel-powered by two coaches but they have the same manufacturers and gauge.
The TRAINOSE Class 520, also known as the AEG DE IC-2000N, is the oldest class of trainsets operated by TRAINOSE. They are diesel-powered, they can be DMU-5 or DMU-4 and were built in 1989 and 1995 as class 601 and 651, respectively, from the cooperation of West Germany's AEG and East Germany's LEW, and for about two decades they were the spearhead of the fast- interurban quality trains (InterCity). Sometimes, DMU-4 units circulate coupled with another truck. In total, there are 20 such trainsets, 12 DMU-4 and 8 DMU-5.
