Oiks is the sixth studio album by Australian alternative rock band Jebediah. The album was announced on 15 November 2023 alongside the album's second single and was released on 12 April 2024. [2] The album debuted and peaked at number 38 on the ARIA chart.

Contents

The album's title is a pet name given to the band by You Am I's Tim Rogers. [4]

The album will be supported by a 22-date national album tour starting in July 2024. [5] [6]

Reception

Double J said "Jebediah's long-awaited sixth album Oiks does not sound like the Jebediah of old" calling it "an album that covers a broad sonic gamut without ever feeling disjointed.". The review concluded with "Oiks proves that, almost 30 years into their career, Jebediah are untethered to their legacy. They're making the music that speaks to who they are now, thankfully that hasn't meant sacrificing quality. [7]

Jeff Jenkins from Stack Magazine called the album "the band's most musically adventurous offering so far" ad called out the "range on display" through "Bad for You", "Rubberman" and "Aqua - Lung". [8]

Greg Phillips from Australian Musician said "Oiks ultimately showcasing the band's enduring creativity while never losing sight of their influential indie and alternative rock roots." [9]

Tone Jam said "Overall, Oiks is a strong return for Jebediah, showcasing their ability to evolve and grow while staying true to their roots. Fans of the band's earlier work will find much to love on this album, while newcomers will be drawn in by its infectious energy and emotional depth. Suburban Kid is the debut solo album by the Australian singer-songwriter Kevin Mitchell, which was released under his pseudonym, Bob Evans. Mitchell is the lead vocalist of alternative rock group, Jebediah. The album was released on 8 September 2003 on Redline Records and was co-produced by Mitchell and Simon Struthers. YourGigs website described it as "an album of youthful introspection, love and loss". Jason Ankeny (Allmusic) felt the album was "showcasing a more intimate, roots-flavored dimension of his songwriting". All the songs were written by Mitchell, although "The Hermit" was co-written with Luke Steele from The Sleepy Jackson. Luke's sister Katy Steele from Little Birdy provided backing vocals for the album.

Redline Records was an independent record label based in Perth, Australia. Started in the year 2000 as a joint project between the band, Jebediah, and its management company, Naked Ape Management, the label predominantly released recordings of Australian indie bands under licensing agreements. Redline Records was distributed by Shock Records in Australia and New Zealand.

Steve Parkin is an Australian musician and singer-songwriter. Born in United Kingdom and raised in Perth. He is a founder member of 1990s Perth garage pop three-piece, Autopilot, who released two EPs, Pure Gold Baby in 1998 and Out of the Sun in 2001. He was also a band member of Basement Birds. He co-wrote material for Eskimo Joe's 2009 album Inshalla, which peaked at number one on the Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) Albums Chart. San Cisco is an Australian indie pop band that formed in 2009 under the original name of King George, in Fremantle, Western Australia. In November 2011, the band was signed by Albert Productions, but moved to Island Records for the release of its debut album. Twenty is a compilation album by Australian alternative rock band, Jebediah. To celebrate the band's twentieth anniversary Jebediah undertook a national tour of Australia and released a collection of twenty songs which spans their entire catalogue. The songs were selected by the band, ranging from "Tracksuit" which appeared on the band's first release, Twitch in 1996 through to "She's Like a Comet", from their fifth studio album, Kosciusko.

Great Gable are an Australian indie rock band formed in Bunbury, Western Australia in 2014. The band consists of Alex Whiteman, Matt Preen, Chris Bye, and Madi Hanley (drums).
