The album received positive reviews from critics. KillYourStereo gave the album a positive review and stated: "Make Them Suffer have outdone themselves with Old Souls. The poetic lyrics and story-telling nature of the songs; the driving blast beats that actually drive the songs further; the symphonic and orchestral elements all result in a far more interesting soundscape than just mere chugs, low growls and breakdowns. Old Souls runs at a break neck pace. It is emotionally intense as they come, and its mix and production is top-notch (on ya Roland Lim). Equally, it's also far more layered and textured than most other metal albums out at the moment. There is so much to find and love within the 40 or so minutes that this album dwells within its running time. You would have to be fucking institutionalised and/or lack a solid internet connection to give this one a miss." [1]
New Noise gave the album a positive review and stated: "The occasional cinematic structure, piano signature, and back-up vocals could be used more often, but they are all (at the least) very helpful in their places of Old Souls. Perhaps, by their third album, Make Them Suffer will have learned to better utilize these strong points. As far as this one goes, Old Souls is a strong enough metalcore release to adequately kill your time for the start of the summer vacation. It could be replaced quickly enough, but returns to it now and then could very well be expected. There's potential to be heard here." [8]

Make Them Suffer is an Australian metalcore band from Perth, formed in 2008. They are currently signed to SharpTone Records. Their debut studio album, Neverbloom, peaked at No. 56 on the ARIA Album charts in June 2012, and showcased the band's earlier mix of metalcore, blackened death metal, and symphonic metal. Its follow-up Old Souls debuted at No. 30 upon release in May 2015 and displayed the band beginning to transition from death/black metal to a more progressive metalcore sound. After the band signed with Rise Records, the label released an expanded version of Old Souls in August 2016, containing also an EP from their death metal era Lord of Woe and a new track, "Ether". Despite the name, the band is not named after the Cannibal Corpse song of the same name.
When We Don't Exist is the debut studio album by American metalcore band Like Moths to Flames. The album was released on November 8, 2011, through Rise Records and was produced by Will Putney. It is the band's first and only release with drummer Lance Greenfield, who left the band in 2012. It is also the last release with another drummer Kevin Rutherford, who performed on two bonus tracks of the deluxe reissue of the album. The album is also the band's first release with lead guitarist Eli Ford. As of 2012, music videos were produced for the songs "You Won't Be Missed", and "The Worst in Me", as well as a live video for "GNF". A reissue of the album was released on November 20, 2012 featuring two new songs.

It's the last album to feature Caleb Burton as a writer, with his departure following the release of Skydancer. Nic Pettersen of Northlane played drums on the album, with Caleb being unable to secure a US Visa in time to record the album; producer Josh Schroeder revealed on Reddit that he was originally going to track drums for both Earthwalker and Skydancer, going as far as writing the drum tracks for both records and practicing as a touring member for the upcoming shows close to his studio.

The Rhapsody Tapes is the debut studio album by Australian nu metal band Ocean Grove. it was released on 3 February 2017 through UNFD Records.
