Omar Amr

Omar Amr (born September 20, 1974) is a former water polo player. He played for the United States national team at the 2004 Summer Olympics. [1]

Amr attended Sunny Hills High School in Fullerton. He played collegiately at the University of California, Irvine, where he was a twice a second-team All-American selection in 1995 and 1996 and an honorable mention All-American selection in 1994, [2] while receiving his degree in biology. [3]

Amr was one of the final players cut from the USA 2000 Olympic Water Polo Men's Team owing to a late injury but made the 2004 team due in part to improvements in his strength, speed, and defensive play. [4] While training for the Olympics, Amr attended Harvard Medical School, and would make weekend trips from Boston to Orange County to train with his teammates. [5] The US team finished seventh at the Athens Olympic Games.

After the Olympics, Amr coached the MIT Men's Water Polo team during the 2004 season while finishing his medical degree at Harvard. [6]

As of 2020 Amr is an emergency room physician who has practiced in Orange County and Stockton. [7]

Roy Allen Saari was an American swimmer and water polo player. He qualified for the 1964 Summer Olympics in both disciplines, and chose swimming, as the Olympic rules of the time did not allow him to compete in two sports. He won a gold medal as a member of the first-place U.S. team in the 4×200-meter freestyle relay, setting a new world record in the final with teammates Steve Clark, Gary Ilman and Don Schollander (7:52.1). Individually he earned a silver medal in the 400-meter individual medley (4:47.1). He also advanced to the finals of the 400-meter freestyle and 1,500-meter freestyle, placing fourth and seventh, respectively. Before the Olympics Saari became the first person to break the 17 minute barrier over 1500 m, but in the Olympic final he was suffering from a cold and clocked a mere 17:29.2.

Brandon Brooks, who played water polo as a goalie for UCLA and the 2004 and 2008 United States National teams, was the head coach of the women's water polo team at UCLA until 2017. The women's team won the 2008 and 2009 NCAA Women's Water Polo Championship, and one of his players, Courtney Mathewson, captured the Peter J. Cutino Award as the player-of-the year in 2008.

Jillian Amaris Kraus is a water polo player. She won a gold medal in the 2005 Junior World Championships, won four straight NCAA Women's Water Polo Championships with UCLA, and has played with the United States women's national water polo team.

He was NCAA Player of the Year and NCAA tournament MVP in 1985.

Amr Mohamed is an Egyptian male water polo player. As a member of Egypt's national water polo team he competed at the 2004 Summer Olympics. At club level he played for Gezira Sporting Club in Egypt.
