One Step Closer is an American straight edge melodic hardcore band from Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. [1] The band is currently signed to Run for Cover Records. [2] The band was one of Stereogum's "Bands To Watch" [3] The band's debut album, This Place You Know, was released in 2021 to positive reviews. [4] BrooklynVegan calls them "one of the most exciting new bands in hardcore". [5]

Musical style and influences

Critics have categorised the band as melodic hardcore. [6] [7] Upset Magazine writer Rob Mair described their music as merging "classic DC emo with youth crew passion and late 90s melodic hardcore approachability to create a sound inspired by hardcore's past but beholden to no single scene." [8] The band often make use of elements of indie rock, [8] post-hardcore and shoegaze. [9]

They have cited influences including Turning Point, Inside Out, Title Fight, Blink-182, Green Day, [6] Have Heart, Bane, [10] and Mineral. [9]

The emo revival, or fourth wave emo, was an underground emo movement which began in the late 2000s and flourished until the mid-to-late 2010s. The movement began towards the end of the 2000s third-wave emo, with Pennsylvania-based groups such as Tigers Jaw, Algernon Cadwallader and Snowing eschewing that era's mainstream sensibilities in favor of influence from 1990s Midwest emo. Acts like Touché Amoré, La Dispute and Defeater drew from 1990s emo and especially its heavier counterparts, such as screamo and post-hardcore.

Inlet is the fifth studio album by the Champaign, Illinois alternative rock band Hum. It was surprise-released digitally to Bandcamp on June 23, 2020. The album has been received positively by critics. It is the final album to feature original drummer Bryan St. Pere who died on June 29, 2021.

Koyo is an American melodic hardcore band formed in 2020 in Stony Brook, New York. The band was formed as a supergroup of hardcore bands including SeeYouSpaceCowboy, with vocalist Joey Chiaramonte hailing from the band Typecaste. They released their debut EP Painting Words Into Lines in March 2020. In 2022, Koyo signed a record deal with Pure Noise Records.
