The Oceania Athletics Association (OAA) is the governing body for the sport of athletics in Oceania. The OAA head office is located in Varsity Lakes, Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia.
In 2010 there was no obvious, primary athletics championship, as neither the Summer Olympics nor the World Championships in Athletics occurred in the year. The foremost championships to be held in 2010 included: the 2010 IAAF World Indoor Championships, 2010 European Athletics Championships, 2010 African Championships in Athletics, and Athletics at the 2010 Commonwealth Games.
Faith Chepngetich Kipyegon is a Kenyan middle- and long-distance runner. Kipyegon is the current world record holder for the 1500 metres and mile, both set in 2023, and the former world record holder for the 5000 metres. At the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics and the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, Kipyegon won a gold medal in the 1500 m. She also won a gold medal in the 1500 m at the 2017, 2022 and 2023 World Athletics Championships and in the 5000 m at the 2023 World Athletics Championships.

The Oceania Cross Country Championships are a biennial Cross country running competition organized by the Oceania Athletics Association (OAA) for athletes representing the countries of its member associations. They were established in 2009, and were held together with either the Australian or New Zealand national championships. Races are featured for senior and U20 and U18 athletes.

The 1993 Oceania Youth Athletics Championships were held in Canberra, Australia, between March 15–16, 1993. The host country Australia did not send athletes. A total of 29 events were contested, 15 by boys and 14 by girls.
Athletics competitions at the 2005 South Pacific Mini Games were held at the National Stadium in Koror, Palau, between July 25–29, 2005.
The 2013 Oceania Athletics Championships were held at the Stade Pater Te Hono Nui in Papeete, French Polynesia, between June 3–5, 2013. The event was held jointly with the 2013 Oceania Youth Athletics Championships, and there were also exhibition events for masters, athletes with a disability and children. Detailed reports on a day by day basis were given.
The 2014 Oceania Junior Athletics Championships were held at the BCI Stadium in Avarua, Rarotonga, Cook Islands, between June 24–26, 2014. They were held together with the 2014 Oceania Senior Championships, and there were also exhibition events for masters, and athletes with a disability (parasports). Detailed reports on a day by day basis were given.

The 2023 World Athletics Cross Country Championships took place on 18 February 2023 in Bathurst, Australia. It was the event's 44th edition and the second time after Auckland in 1988 that the championships were held in Oceania.

The 2024 World Athletics Cross Country Championships was to be held in Medulin and Pula, Croatia, on 10 and 11 February 2024. However on the 15th of September 2023 it was announced by World Athletics that the event is to be moved to an undisclosed new venue in Europe.
