Optimist is a bi-monthly LGBT magazine published in Belgrade, Serbia. [1] The magazine was founded in 2011 with the goal of informing and strengthening the LGBT community in Serbia through information, but also to contribute to reduction of homophobia and social distance toward LGBT population. [2]

Publishing

The magazine is published every other month and is distributed free of charge throughout Serbia in LGBT clubs and bars, cultural centers, institution and organizations. [3] It is available in its entirety on the magazine's website in PDF format. [4]

Founder and Editor in chief is Predrag Azdejkovic, Serbian journalist and LGBT rights activist.

In September 2015 first issue of Optimist magazine was published in Montenegro, but after three issues was discontinued. [5]

<i>Pobjeda</i>

Pobjeda is a Montenegrin daily newspaper. Having been published for 75 years, it is the oldest Montenegrin newspaper still in circulation; in the media, it is also the oldest Montenegrin active publication. Until September 1997 it was the only daily newspaper printed in Montenegro. On 21 May 2010, the newspaper dropped the Cyrillic script in favour of the Latin script.

Montenegro has recognised same-sex unions since 15 July 2021. In July 2020, the Parliament of Montenegro passed a bill, by 42 votes to 5, to recognise life partnerships for same-sex couples offering several, but not all, of the rights and benefits of marriage. The bill was signed into law on 3 July 2020 by President Milo Đukanović and took effect on 15 July 2021.

Jelena Đurovic is a Montenegrin journalist, writer and political activist of a Jewish-Montenegrin origin, based between Podgorica, Montenegro and Belgrade, Serbia. Jelena was a founder and Vice President of the Jewish Community of Montenegro. She was the closest associate of the president of the Jewish Community of Montenegro, late Jasha Alfandari. Alfandari and Đurović collaborated with major umbrella Jewish organisations until his sudden death on 12 July 2018. Currently, she is a Chairwoman of heterodox lobbying and think tank organisation OJC SEE - Organization for Jewish Cooperation in Southeastern Europe and a member of the Board of the Montenegrin national council in Belgrade, Serbia. As a journalist, she predominantly works as a film and TV critic.

Gay Lesbian Info Centre is a lesbian, gay and bisexual rights charity in the Serbia. It was formed in 2009 by Predrag Azdejković, Serbian gay journalist, Blogger and writer to promote LGBT right through media, culture and art, to collect information on LGBT human right and violation of LGBT human rights, recognise and promote good practices regarding promotion of LGBT human rights and cooperate with media, media associations, cultural organizations and government institutions.

The National Library of Montenegro "Đurđe Crnojević" (NLM) is a public institution that preserves the written, printed and publications in other media published in Montenegro and abroad. As part of its own publishing production, NLM publishes retrospective and current Montenegrin national bibliography. NLM is the parent library to all libraries in Montenegro and the National Agency for the assignment of ISBN, ISSN, ISMN and other international bibliographic numbers, and for Cataloguing in Publication (CIP) for publishers in Montenegro. NLM "Đurđe Crnojević" was named after the 15th century ruler of Montenegro, who in 1493 established the first state printing house in the world and the second Cyrillic printing house in Europe. Since 2004, Jelena Djurovic has been the Director of the National Library.

Homosexuality in Yugoslavia was firstly decriminalized in the Socialist Republics of Croatia, Slovenia, Montenegro and the Socialist Autonomous Province of Vojvodina in 1977. In other regions anti-LGBT legislation was, to varying degrees, progressively not implemented. The capital city of Belgrade, together with Zagreb and Ljubljana, became some of the first spots of an organized LGBT movement in the Balkans.

Dritan Abazović is a Montenegrin politician who served as Prime Minister of Montenegro and as acting Minister of Foreign Affairs from 2022 to 2023. An ethnic Albanian, he heads the United Reform Action party. He previously served as deputy prime minister in the cabinet of Zdravko Krivokapić from 2020 until 2022.

Predrag Azdejković is Serbian LGBT human rights activist, journalist, writer, film and theater producer. Azdejković is director of Gay Lesbian Info Center, director of Merlinka festival, editor in chief of Serbian only gay magazine Optimist, producer of several short films and documentaries and several award-winning theater plays that all are dedicated to LGBT population. He is a member of Journalists' Association of Serbia.
