The fishes name means = macro-, from makrós (Gr. μακρός), long or large; ptera, from pterón (Gr. πτερόν) or ptéryx (πτέρυξ), fin, referring to its large pectoral fins, which extend far beyond the belly and the dorsal-fin base. [3]
