Ornella Oettl Reyes (born 14 December 1991) is a German-Peruvian alpine skier who was part of the first Peruvian delegation to the Winter Olympics. [1] She specializes in slalom and giant slalom and has competed in six World Championships and two Winter Olympics.

Career

Born in Munich, Germany to a German father and a Peruvian mother, Oettl Reyes carries both citizenships. [1] [2] [3]

Her first International Ski Federation (FIS) competition was the 2006 German National Junior Race, where she was disqualified in the first slalom run and did not finish the second giant slalom run. [4] As of February 2022, her best finish in any competition was second place at a 2008 giant slalom event in Germany. [5]

Since June 2009, Oettl Reyes has been representing Peru in the FIS, having previously been registered as German. [4] At the age of 18, she made her Olympic debut at the 2010 Olympics in Canada, as part of the first-ever Peruvian delegation to the Winter Olympics. [4] [6] A year later, she participated in her first World Championship.

Oettl Reyes has participated in every World Championship since 2011, with varying success. In the 2021 World Championship, she placed 36th in slalom, her best-ever placement in the competition as of 2022. [7]

Personal life

Oettl Reyes has two siblings. Her younger brother Manfred is also an alpine skier. [1] [3]

As of February 2010, his best performance was a 32nd-place finish in a downhill event in Italy. He is a member of the Asociación Peruana de Ski.

Alessia Afi Dipol is an Italian-Togolese alpine skier who competed for Togo at the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics in the slalom and giant slalom. Dipol also originally competed for India between 2011 and 2013, but she later switched to compete for Togo even though she has no familial connections to the country, so she could qualify to compete at the 2014 Winter Olympics. She also chose to represent the country because her father owns a clothing factory in Togo.

Ester Ledecká is a Czech snowboarder and alpine skier. At the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, Ledecká won gold medals in the super-G in alpine skiing and in the parallel giant slalom in snowboarding, becoming the first person to not only compete in the Winter Olympics using two different types of equipment but to go further and win two gold medals and do so at the same Winter Olympics. She was the second woman to win an Olympic gold in two separate disciplines but the first to do so at the same Winter Olympics. She was the first Czech to win the parallel giant slalom in snowboarding at the FIS Snowboard World Cup.

Itamar Biran is an Israeli Olympic alpine ski racer who represents Israel in international competitions. He competes in giant slalom, super-G, slalom and Combined.
